I was going to put this in Accessories and Mods, but I guess that it's better here. Enjoy.
How to Fix a New Gas Can (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lcnwdIYEfI&feature=player_embedded#)
Useful info. I have that exact can, and it sure is a pain in the posterior region to deal with. What he shows fixes the problems I've run into aside from me having the Walmart version without the longer nozzle.

government regulations are no match for human ingenuity!
Pretty funny video. ;D Good idea with the valve stem....may do mine this weekend. [thumbsup]

Same here. I have 6 of those things.
Are all new petrol cans sold in the US of this...um... clever design?? [bang]
Fraid so...

The real answer involves politics...
the guy in the video pretty much covers it. ;)
Or just get this:

I've converted all my gas cans, no issues, no BS.
Love that guys attitude and pretty good looking mod IMO.

Haven't seen those anywhere.
The spout has a vent in it. The reason to eliminate the separate manual vent was to prevent overflows from it.
I have the exact same spout on my cans -- gas, diesel. I have no issue operating them. He's right about the angle though, nearly impossible to get the last bit out.
Using the tire valve is a good idea except that the rubber will be eaten up by the gas. It will slowly rot.
If you keep that many gas cans around, you need one of these:

:D
That's probably it. [laugh]
Living in Kalifucya I have learned that it does not have to make sense to be law. I always get a chuckle about the new gas cans while I am lifting up the heavy rubber sleeve around the gas nozzle to fill at the pump. Then I look down at the Evap canister on my bike and fall to the ground laughing..........
Usually that laughter is interrupted by all the guys with two stroke leaf blowers.

When I am fooling around with one of those nozzles and they start leaking gas on the ground I wonder just what the point of it all is.
am i the only one who was wtching the video expecting/hoping for some horrific acident in the process of fixing the can?
also, i have salvaged nozzles from the old cans because i hate the new ones. esp the ones that you have to dpress the sleeve around the nozzle for it to work. it only results in getting gas all over you when filling anything but a car
How do you know when the mod bug has bitten too many times? When you're modding your petrol cans. [laugh]
