Just got my new gas cap from redlunaracing on eBay. They're California based.
Here's the old one. It's chipped and looks bad. Also, the project to eliminate gold on the bike is on-going.

Here's this little rubber nub that usually sits in a groove where I'm holding it. The eBay gas cap was squishing it. Initially, I took it off, but then figured it must be there for a reason. There's a hole machined in the gas cap where it lines up but it's much smaller. Ultimately, I just squeezed it down when I tightened it. Air can still flow, and I'm sure the seal is better than ever.

Very nice fit and finish.

Threading on the cap was a bit of a pain because the aluminum wanted to bind/seize a bit. I had a can of chain wax nearby, and I rubbed some on the threads with my fingers. It works much better!

This is a stupid easy mod and for $38 bucks on eBay, hard to say no:

I love the look [thumbsup] Although I admit that I prefer a gas cap lid that stays with the gas cap. Other than not being carbon fiber or extra trick looking the stock cap works really well. I just know it would be a matter of time before I rode off without screwing my cap back in lolololol
I haven't tanked up yet, but I imagine it's going into my pocket
that screw on cap looks like its going to be a pain in the a$$ everytime you fill up. Fiddling with gloves, unscrewing it, setting it somewhere, etc. etc... I personally like the function of the OEM cap. Its hinged, and stays in place without having to sit it somewhere else while fueling up. Also makes fill ups quicker with just pressing it shut.
Looks nice though
Pocketing it is annoying, but the gloves make it pretty easy to remove. Easier than bare hands
I would worry about the lack of locking.
looks good, but would be nice if it didn't screw on and had a lock.
I painted my OEM cap black. boom, done.
The risk of siphoning is high I admit

Siphoning? Don't worry you wont lose much [thumbsup]
I had one of those on my Black 1098s. It was a pain but I put up with it because it looked great.
After 2yrs the cap faded a bit, turned a little bit purple. The base didn't fade though so it started to look a bit weird.
I never cross threaded it but I was careful and everytime I refitted the cap, I first turned it anticlockwise until I felt the threads drop together then turned it clockwise.
There is a version of this cap that comes with a key..

Looks exactly like the one I bought from eBay. Started out black and 6 months later is now almost gold. However, it does look nice when new. As for gassing up, I always wear gloves. Take the gloves off at the pump and rest the cap on the gloves no big deal. Besides, I need the gloves off to get and swipe the CC.
I had the exact same one and do like the look.
However, after dropping the cap a couple times while filling up I put the stock one back on.
I will likely paint the gold flap on the stock cap.
