i want to get the loudest possible cans on my bikes, just short of going to straight pipes. that is, i still want some decent back pressure but i want the thing to sound just plain cut off! [evil]
any ideas? i've been leaning towards mivv but they may be too quiet. and too much. i want nothing. but i want something. quat-d ex-box?
I would think Boomtubes have to be up there in the decibels.
here you go... unfortunately they are not available from them for some reason..
Ducati Monster - Yoshimura adaptation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeOO_j7Kkdo&list=PLnW_HypFdP1hO7h4IjseuOPB4dZVsq_C3&index=4#)
try the danmoto Conical GP.. if you don't like the, you just burned a few $$
oh yeah, BOOMTUBES! how could i have forgotten!
the yoshis sound sweet, but i have an old monster...
D&D or the Ducati Performance 'Conti-replica' megaphones.
Either are borderline ear-bleeders.
but you can't get those anymore, for the old monster, can you?
Chopped and gutted stock cans for the old bikes are pretty loud too from what I remember.
Quat- D
CHOP IT YOURSELF! i may actually do that -- i want to go for more of a mad-max kind of look, after seeing/hearing what jamie robinson did to his cbr on ``RIDE APART'': http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SEDor5556io# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SEDor5556io#)!
Ya, just gut the stock muffs! If you max obnoxious that is the way to go. I did that on an '85 K100 BMW, and it was raspy loud. I eventually got a Staintune that was a bit more civilized, tho........
I'd heard of people with pipes that have cans that can be serviced taking off the packing and using exhaust wrap over the perf tubing to effectively make it like one really long straight pipe.
I got the D&D on my 750 before.
I definitely go for that if I want to achieve the loudness. Plus i think they are relatively cheap (used) cuz i was trying to sell them for $150 and no one here want to buy them LOL!!!
What I noticed was that loud pipes doesn't give the deep/warm "Duc sounds", but i guess that doesn't matter to you.
LOUD just makes it cackle like a Harley. Loud gives that good rumble when you chop the throttle. loud makes it less obvious to LEO's so they don't give you stink eye. That's my take on it.
Matty's 620 with MIVV cans.

That thing sounds MEAN.
Me likey
Yes, straight pipes sound nasty. But its kinda sharp. HD straights sound different than our bikes. More "rounded", less sharp.
You can cut and core your stock cans. Shorter will be louder. However with less airflow resistance from reducced or lack of packing the air velocity will be messed up. Same goes for straight pipes but worse. Trust me, i did lots of experimenting trying to get a decent street performance out of straight pipes.
Low end torque will suffer but top end *may* improve. But i doubt you spend much time at WOT.
It may seem like a power boost bc it sounds meaner and you will be throttle giddy. But power is less.
Most HD guys running drag pipes dont realize how much more hp could be had with a good exhaust.
That said i am running DM conicals and they are loud but not obnoxious.
Here is a great vid by S&S about exhaust tuning. Its about HD's but all the theories apply across the board, IMO.

I had stainless Forrza low pipes. They were relieved of the fiberglass inside. The sound was wicked.......not in a boomy sort of way, more like top fuel dragster.
I missed the Bass which is why I switched to Fresco conical highs.

Wow!
FWIW, I have a set of lollipop baffles in the mid-pipes just after the end of the headers. I do notice a difference. If i could afford a *real* set of pipes I probably wouldnt need them. Mine are a bolt with a washer welded on top
melvin's bike makes me too jealous -- i can't watch that again. why didn't i buy an orange s2r [bang]

Ducati Performance 'Conti-replica' megaphones.
Either are borderline ear-bleeders.
Like the ones that are on BP's Tostapane?
i have a pair of conti style megaphone.. ebay specials
those with straight 2 into 2 with no crossover... was so loud had to put baffles to get down to 97 db. on a 696!
Not really helpful, as I believe he's out of business - but ARC Fabrication - Doug Cook set of megaphones on an S2R1000 were rather ear shattering.
FWIW i toyed with the idea of some DANMOTO GP-style cones... but being concerned about the made-in-chinaness and the customer service, etc., i am going instead with some MIVV titanium ovals.
they may not be earth-shattering, but i believe they will be loud, sans baffles, and provide decent back-pressure...
cheers [beer]
So what do you guys think of these end caps? Machined from billet aluminum, they will bolt to Titanium cones. Bolt pattern is the same so you could change the look if you wanted. Ti cones are 13" long, 2in" OD on the small end and 4" OD on the large end. I could also do a full Ti reverse meg. They will be loud ;D

Digging the hooligan-flat tracker style. Roland Sands (RSD) makes some killer bikes.

I would get the Quat-D or Boomtubes if I didn't already have my beloved Road Racing exhaust. [bow_down]

Not true with my RR. That's one of the main reasons I love it so much. Not "obnoxious" loud, more like the awesome Duc note that's become more [evil]
Given the price of Boomtubes, I think I'd talk to a talented local exhaust shop about a true one-off before shelling out that kind of coin.
