Title: Job offer in Oklahoma
Post by: Raux on May 15, 2013, 07:50:52 AM
Well... looks like the DoD needs me in Oklahoma.

Tinker AFB to be precise.

Got a job offer today. My unit here NOW wants me to stay and says they want to TRY and transfer me to another position (mine got cut).

What do you think? Bird in hand?

Jerry it all depends on whether you want to stay in europe or go back to the states, you know that WDW2014 wouldn't be on the callender if you're on the other side of the pond... [bang]

Geoff... [coffee]

BTW its great being retired... [thumbsup]

give the current unit the amount of time you have before
the OK offer closes.  if no new job is firm by then, don't turn
down a sure thing (IMHO).

weli guess I should say that I have lived in OK before and my sister lives in Tulsa and parents plan on retiring there as well.

so all in all, it's not the location that's an issue... it's the empty promise of them wanting me to stay, but having no firm paperwork/offer saying so.

This.

On the plus side, it'll put you within striking distance for DITR.

the village is calling, pick up.  I'm not a resident but have been all over the State and must say there are some great roads there and the people are nice to boot PLUS you can open carry!

if you end up there let the local DFWM board know.  We do trips into the Oachita mountains and Eureka Springs, AR, sometimes.  I need another excuse to ride anyway.  Good luck.

I've spent some time in Okc, and it's a pretty nice place.

Brick town is fun, there's a burgeoning craft food and beer scene that is pretty awesome. The locals are pretty laid back.

Right next to tinkers there's a park that has a really pretty lake and some bad ass MTB trails.

I used to be a hater, until I went there. Okc has a lot going for it. I wouldn't mind living there for a bit.

Edmond and Norman are "better" areas but Moore is a good compromise depending on your budget.  if you stay in OK City try heading NW.  I know nothing about schools but I can tell you that the local Duc shop closed a year ago so it's down to Dallas for work.  You have three dealers here in Dallas and two independent mechanics, of which I highly recommend one.  Congrats on your decision.  I travel there for work so when you settle send me your info and we can drink and tell lies one night

DiTR won't come close to WDW but it would be nice to experience it.

I know a lot of guys who went to Tinker AFB after tech school and liked it there. Good luck!

BONNEVILLE!!!

[evil]

Ok, seriously: OKC has a lot going for it.  Been there a couple times & it's not bad!  Also, if there's no Duc dealership and you want to open a shop...  Just sayin'...

Welcome back JB!  [thumbsup]

I think maybe the Duc dealer in OKC closed shop. I have a friend that rides Ducs and works at Tinker, I'll ask. If that shop closed the next closest would be Dallas or KC. Tulsa closed down a few years ago.

yep, OKC shut down

didn't know Tulsa had one.

give your friend my contact info from here.

Tulsa and Dallas are pretty much the same distance but as for the Tulsa dealer, it was more a Vespa shop than anything else.  If, or when, you come to Dallas for some service let us know ahead of time and we will take you to lunch somewhere...will try to avoid tassels  [evil]

Talk about horrible timing!!!  :-X  I was watching the news last night and Tinker was mentioned but I didn't here if they had a tornado too or if it was one from the past?
