Title: Going riding in Sacramento foothills tomorrow.
Post by: Skybarney on May 25, 2013, 02:04:08 PM
I just had my favorite riding buddy get hit in traffic on Sunrise so am wondering if anyone is going to go play tomorrow.

Plan on riding up around highway 88-26 maybe a long loop through Icehouse.  Figure it out tomorrow!  PM if you want to go play motorcycle!

Nothing worse than a kid with a shiny new toy. ;D Watch for  [leo] on a holiday, since THEY don't want to be there and might use YOU to express their frustration. 8)

Rubber side down!

Lol,  I Know where I can and can't play.  I would be hard pressed to get a ticket up where I ride.  Although I do agree it is tempting to avoid all Sundays!  Should no one else want to ride I may just hide inside tomorrow.  Don't like crowds and squids much  ;D

When a bunch of us used to ride SBK's back in the late 80's on our favorite mountain and hill roads in rural NJ and PA, we left quite early on Sundays when the roads were empty, but curtailed the "play" after a late breakfast or early lunch, as the  [leo] were out in force by noonish. That was fine. The downside of early morning rides in March/April and October/November is some scary wildlife. You've been riding for 30 years, so you'll have had a few encounters. Two of my riding pals and I have had your pal's injury or broken shoulders from deer. Mine was "only" a cracked shoulder blade, and back then I healed fast! ;)

Here in Central VA, I ride mostly during the week and the roads between my garage and the Blue Ridge Parkway are pretty clear. Most are well maintained and wooded and quite entertaining. I see the occasional Sheriff or Trooper, but it's rare, touch wood. I carry a "lucky charm" (interesting credentials) for emergencies and prefer NOT to have to use it. ;D In Central VA, outside of towns, the [leo] are quite tolerant as long as you're not doing anything stupid. 80 in a 55 is still an UGLY ticket though. ;D The Parkway is Federal (NPS, no BLM), so that's to be avoided. 8)

On a three day weekend, Sundays are empty roads around here as the lemmings head to the beach or touristy areas in the mountains, so I'm fine on the local loops. Monday is another matter!

Cur,  Looks like we share the same ideas about riding (:  I once broke the back legs on a deer with my helmet after he jumped across the road left to right.  I was in a right turn leaned way over at about 85mph on a 100 degree day.  He went right over the bike.  We had to put the deer down but it took me about five minutes to be able to stand up my legs were shaking so badly.

Ya know if we could just stop animals and cars from the roadways motorcycle would be perfect!

^^^ Agreed!  If they just moved those damn signs away from places we ride it would solve the problem.   ;D
