According to German Motorrad magazine, a naked 1098 may be ready by autumn. Here's the link
http://www.motorradonline.de/news/v4-ungeheuer-in-planung---ducati-monstersedici-rr.299851.htm (http://www.motorradonline.de/news/v4-ungeheuer-in-planung---ducati-monstersedici-rr.299851.htm)
somebody from Ducati allegedly told that he would not dare buy the naked 1098 because of its excessive power.
there's also a picture of a conceptual desmosedici-monster *could somebody please paste that picture* , which -again according to the magazine- was abandoned because of the expensive 4 cylinder RR motor. Maybe it' better this way. maybe desmosedici should remain unique

Faaaar more likely we'll see a 1098-based monster.
Hack job or not, that would be a sweet sounding bike.
could we put a windscreen on that pls?
I just threw up a little in my throat
the ron [evil]
If the 696 designers screw this one up as well I will buy a Benelli or MV.
I totally want a 1000+ naked bike in the future but none that looks like our favorite bashing object
maybe I should go and sneak into the factory when I´m down in Italy
I can't believe anybody from the factory would say the 1098 has too much power. The current s4r/rs frame can handle a whole lot more than the current 1098 can put out- at least from what I could tell from riding a stock 1098.

As much as I dislike the lines of the 696, this engine/frame combo actually seems to compliment the tank a bit better than the normal L-twin.

Trust me. A 1098 with handle bars, no fairing, and shorter gearing will be a widow maker for sure.
Maybe the would tune down the engine like the did for the fz1 make it some what tame for everday use.
lol
PS From what I have heard about the 1098 my last comment just seems funny.

Bring it on doood! [thumbsup]
But maybe a 1200cc, only slightly detuned and with some of that traction control thingy thrown in for good measure. ;D

I found your next ride. This should hold you for another year or so before you get bored.

Looks like it would cut the wind pretty good. Those bars are a little high. Clipons? Rear sets?
The design has that quality that eludes description, Sorta like the Mona Lisa’s smile. It has a certain ...... well ......I don't really know what to call it - a je ne sais quoi - or what ever you call it. [roll] [roll]
I think it might be a little heavy.
I do like it though. [thumbsup]
You're right. Definitely me. ;D

I am anamored by the photo . Actually I could see me riding a bike like that.
The problem w/ a naked w/ 200 Hp is that it would have alot of Wind Drag. I still think it would be a hell of of lot of fun and could look good as well. I say bring it on.

True, but you know us; (humans) more, More, MORE!!!
Motorcyles sorta stop making sense when the power starts getting out of control. 1/2 the people who own literbikes probably don't even belong on them, and don't realize just how much brutal power there is sitting between their legs. But guess what? They look good on 'em!!! 8)
-I'm convinced that they could come out with a 300hp naked and they'd sell like hotcakes. People, as a general rule of thumb IMO, LOVE excess. Probably the same reason why the jackass who stuffed a chevy 350 big-block V-8 into a motorcycle frame is laughing all the way to the bank... :-\
-But hey; I'd take a 1098 naked anyday!! ;)
I was talking to Danny (don't know the last name) at the Demo Day today with the Ducati Truck here in Phoenix.
He told me that they are going to put the DS motor in the new 696 frame as well. Seeing it in person, eh, it's ok. I still don't like the droopy ass headlight. It looks like it's going to fall off the bike....
I think it takes a year or so until after market parts will appear that don't follow Duactis new space scooter design.
Like Tremignoni did with the exhaust...
WTF...those bags are one of the most ugly pieces on the new bike design, same for the lamps.
I can live with the frame, its not to bad seeing it in person.
But the license plate holder/turn signals mount/tail end combo is just evil.
Please Rizoma, do something ;)

I imagine side drafts could be an issue and imagine a simple spark plug change.

i wish the whole 696 look would fade from my sight. it really look like a desmo engine was thrown through a plumbing store window. 1098 in present frame...... [evil] [coffee]

+1 bulky half trelis makes it look like the monster gained weight. new sub frame looks cheesy.

Classic Monster style with the full trellis frame and the new engine. None of this Mattel looking crap!!!
I kind of like this as a naked bike:

that thing look terrible as a naked bike. lol
however i will say props to ducati to still making the frame look sweet, even if its hidden in the fairing. you know the bike still looks like its only 1 cylinder wide even when you compare it to tiny 4 cyl jap bikes.
