I think I could have posted this in General Monster.

For those that didn't grow up in So Cal in the 80's:

Good riddance! 'Bout effing time.
I still remember how great it was to get home from school and see news footage of some brave citizen beating the shit out of him with a pipe! That was awesome. [thumbsup]
The only thing that saddens me is that we as taxpayers kept that POS alive this long.....
Kinda like the Boston Bomber, guy admits guilt but we will be paying millions and millions in trials and appeals, for a guy that admits guilt.... [bang]
Ducpainter, Please tell me this was not political [Dolph]

You're fine. [laugh]
The only problem I have, and strictly from a personal viewpoint, is why do we glorify these assholes by even talking about them?
Let them die a lonely miserable death either by execution or in jail with their names never uttered.
Many of them do it for the attention in the first place.
I'm not saying we should forget about the kind of place the world is today or think it won't happen again, but we shouldn't remember their names.
Without using Google or any search engine tell me the name of a Vietnam vet, a man that served in the sandbox, or one that died trying to save people at ground zero in NY.
Get my point?
Point not missed on me that's for sure. Part of ones punishment should almost extend into being removed from the history books and public mention. The argument against that, is repeating mistakes. missing the tell tale signs of a sicko because we never got a look into the lives of actual sickos. Catch 22. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Were I King there would be a simple rule. Get caught doing violence to a stranger (red handed or by confession) and go straight to the firing squad. Get caught killing people or admit to it? Go straight to dead. Trails are for when guilt is in question.
Shoot I could start an entire If I were King thread. I would be banned in ten minutes [beer]
Just as a counterpoint, there is one thing being overlooked. The victims have the right to have their attacker denounced publicly, as they are unable to speak for themself.
But I completely agree, something is screwed up somewhere, when the previously mentioned vicious criminal has been receiving fan mail for the last 30 years. Return to sender?
^^ [bang]
I just read that wiki link. I remember when they caught him but don't recall the part about the mob beating him. Sounds like he was screwed from day one.
The only possible good thing coming from keeping him alive was being able to study him for the future cases. He did have a couple head injuries as a kid.

I remember that day. He tried to carjack a woman so he could get out of town after his photo was on every newspaper front page. The woman he tried to get the car from starting screaming that is was Richard Ramirez and all the neighbors came out and starting beating him with pipes and two by fours.
The cops showed up a bit to early.

Luckily, she was able to scream and other heard!!
That's kind of reminiscent of the boston bombers when their pics were released.
