looks like a piece of stiff competition for the middle weight naked bike segment.
I'll take a version of that with the crossplane R1 engine please. [evil]

Well, they're saying it's got a crossplane crank.
It's a 120 degree crank, like Yamaha had in the XS750/850 triple, and like most everybody did in I3 engines.
mmm, there's my recommended daily dose of manufacturer marketing clap trap.
"more power than a speed triple" yes, well, it is 175cc bigger pal, it should make more power.
"cross plane crank" how else do you make a triple? oh, that's right, lets make a one up two down like the laverda jota. it'll only vibrate to bits.
really, does anyone believe that sort of blatently obvious marketing bullshit.

agree, especially since the new street triple is pretty fugly IMO.

The Yamaha is pretty sexy for a Japanese Bike! Triumph is Fugly.......
First thing I thought when I saw that earlier today was, "Wow, a new version of the ratty XS750 cluttering my shop."
[puke]
i'm not a fan of the current street triple but i'd choose that over this bike anyday... it just... looks all off.

+1
Triumphs were never "pretty" bikes so it's never been part of the draw, but the Yamaha is just weird.

They are both fugly.
When will manufacturers outside of Italy start making bikes that look attractive? Maybe never. It might not be in their consciousness.
They already have the FZ8. Why this now?
They are both ugly 8)

Exactly!

I think this replaces the FZ8, hence the FZ9 moniker
Most likely just the color scheme but sure does remind me of the Honda Grom:

Because it's almost a grand cheaper and over 50 lbs lighter?
Because the FZ8 engine was merely a sleeved-down version of the antique 5-valve engine in the FZ1?
I like it. But I don't love it. I'll still go test ride it when it comes out in September though. I think the looks can be vastly improved by replacing that headlamp with a classic round headlight.
Although if I was to replace my Monster with this, I think I'd miss the Duc. But then again, the little 620 is my first bike so I'm not sure what a triple is even like to ride.
I currently ride a Triple and I can say that it does take a while to get used to it. I missed the torque in the low end and the music a twin makes. I do have to say that I have grown to love my Trip, even if it's fugly.
