Out of curiosity the other day when I was filling up the M620, I did a quick calculation for the mpg number:
63.3333/mpg in mixed city and highway use (2.7 gallons, 171 miles - with some fuel still in the tank).
Does anyone else have fuel mileage numbers they'd care to share?
Cher ;D
I've been seeing 38 MPG lately
I'm at about mid 40's most of the time. If I avoid the parking lots they call freeways, I can get upper 40's/50ish. :P
around 40mpg, but I have not been really accurately calculating. oddly enough, 85 mph in 5th gear seems to net me the best mileage, and the display shows that about 47mpg.
Around town, hitting plenty of stoplights I've calculated right about 45mpg. My current tank has a lot more highway though, so I'm curious to see what that's going to do to my numbers.
I get 32-38 mpg cruising/commuting on the 1098.
I've gotten as low as 21 on it, but I was really working it hard.
The old FCR carburated 900SS gets mid-50's regularly, with a best of 61.5 on a trip to Padre Island a couple of years ago.
I leaned the air-bleeds out for that trip (easy, just a turn of a screw on the FCR's).
Like Patric said 85-90MPH seems to be the best speed.
In about 1300 miles this month I have been very consistently between 43-46.
Used to get 55-65mpg on the SV650
Damn I need a commuter bike. All you guys are running well over 40MPG. I was happy to make 100 miles on 2.7gallons.
ST4S w/watercooled 996cc motor, 115 RWHP regularly 46-48 MPG, best 51 MPG hiway @ nothing more than 75MPH
916 w/watercooled 996cc motor, 120 RWHP regularly 44-46 MPG, best 49 MPG hiway @ nothing more than 75MPH
M1000 w/aircooled 992 motor, 86 RWHP regularly 34-36 MPG, best 40 MPG hiway @ nothing more than 75MPH
I had expected more from the Monster but there it is. The heavier, faired bikes with bigger, more highly tuned motors get better mileage. Maybe the Monster is running too rich?
***
S2R 800 gets about 44 MPG.
S4RS gets around 35 MPG.
Both MPGs are mixed highway and city streets.
Swanny
I get 30-34mpg on the 1098 with full Termis and the race ECU. My Honda VFR gets around 36mpg. Both are mixed highway and city riding. :-\ It would sure be nice to get 40+mpg again. My 600rr and 599 did that consistantly. [moto]
Haven't watched the numbers lately but
2006 Sport 1000 - 32-38 MPG (mixed around town and highway)
I suspect the highway mileage has gotten a bit worse since going +3 on the rear.
That's another thing I should add about the 620:
Stock 46T rear sprocket :o
14T front sprocket.
What would happen mpg-wise if I went back to the stock 15T front?
black beauty can be moody. when she plays nice we get between 45 and 50. when she wants everyone to get fu#! out of the way so she can breathe 40 to 45.
oh come on, you knew this was coming...
This is the Monster, the couple of crazy high numbers were when I was playing with the mixtures for a while...

Here's the 748, I only have data from when i bought the bike last year though (interesting how the mileage wasn't doing so hot in the last couple of tanks and I happened to find a bunch of flaking rockers just now):
and I do the same with my Accord, but what's really interesting is that I kept all the prices for every tank of gas I got on the car:

David, thats nuts
Well on my S2R1K in commuting 62miles round trip my reserve light always comes on between 130 and 135 miles which i believe translates to something in the upper 40's
:o Damn David, that's awesome...
But what's the answer?
;D

Impressive data collection! [thumbsup]
I vote you present this during the next HC trip, during a break-out session. I have access to an LCD projector if needed. [laugh]
if i stay reasonable on the throttle, i get right around 50. in the real world it is a little less though [evil] it seems happiest in 6th gear around 80, but mileage drops to low 40's

What bike?

Generally around the 34-38 to/from work...city makes the mileage take a hit.
Have hit 40-41, but that was mainly in the highway...75+ and hitting 100-120 in that period.
i did that on my sentra as well...i found it was one of the best ways to tell when something wasn't right with the car and needed some attention. it was strangely fun to compile all the receipts and store all that data...
i've been bad lately about waiting to get closer to empty before filing up...but it's been roughly around 45mpg with mixed driving. that's with a rear sprocket that's +5 teeth.

You need to replace the emulsion tubes in your carburators.
This kind of mileage on your bike is a big indicator they are not right.
Many were never good from the factory... and the rest were shot by 12,000 miles.
Any good jet kit will replace them... or just swap to the FCR carburators.
With FCR's I went from mid 30'sMPG to low-mid 50'sMPG
-AND picked up throttle response and highter RPM pulling out of the motor.
If you put high-compression pistons in you'll pick up a few miles a galon more and be in the upper 50MPG range!
+1. Alan said his LYD (an M900) did around 50 MPG on the highway.

interesting...i'm actually not sure if i have a jet kit in mine or not...i haven't had the balls to take off my carbs and remove anything; i figured i would be tempting fate and put something back together incorrectly. i suppose the worst that happens is i would just have to take another crack at removing it and installing it properly.
i do have a spare set of carbs just sitting here, too...i believe they have a jet kit in them. that reminds me i need to do some research to figure out what kit it is and if i should maybe try installing them on the SS...

dude...you're alive...
more than i can say about that link in your post, though...

Do you have stock carbs or FCR's?
If just stockers, I would be happy with where you are.
(and if so someone HAS jetted/updated SOMETHING in there)
What kind of carbs are your "spares"?
If stockers I might know someone looking for some... (no, not me).
PM me.

Thanks for the info Count
Dracula I mean Puggula. I was going to wait on this until the "winter" and fix this along with the choke (which I do not use). But if the FCR carb is going to bump up the mileage that much, it will pay for itself.
Who do you suggest I purchase said FCR from?

Quite possibly the easiest code change I've made in the last month.
