One of my "Sons" called me and is looking to buy a pickup. He is looking at either a Toyota Tundra or a Nissan Titan. I have no personal experience with either. He is looking at a new 2012 Titan or a 2013 Tundra. Any first hand experience, thoughts or opinions?
Personally I prefer the Nissan, but, is he looking for looks or work?
Rebuilding the rear axle in the Titan sucks. A good friend has one and wishes he didn't. I have a 2008 Tundra and wouldn't dream of getting the Titan. If towing capacity is important, then Tundra all the way.
i LOVE my 2007 Tundra.
i also HATE the look of the Titan.
beyond that, I have never done a comparison,...since i would never have considered the Titan.
Tundra
Tundra.
I'm not a fan of the design or build quality of the Titan.

Yeah, it happened here. I was being factious then decided not to.

Thanks for the input. We'll see what he ends up with.
The 2014 Tundra is a refresh, so there will definitely be deals on the '13 right now.

You're biased. :P
How is that biased?
I made no comment on how much better the Tundra is than the Titan. ;)

The Nissan is overall a nice reliable truck but if they haven't addressed the rear diff I would steer clear. It's a 4k fix or so.

The best offense is a great defense?
I wonder why Toyota and Nissan don't offer these ute's for sale in Australia?
Could it be that outside of NA there's no market for such mighty thirsty beasts?
Ung - Because you guys get the Hilux, one of the best utes around.
I would lean toward the Tundra.
JM
Just had a conversation with a Tundra driver at a gas station while I was taking the Duc out for a spin. It was a work supplied truck and he was a manager of a large cranberry operation. He said the truck was reliable and very comfortable, but that the traction control system was PITA off road, where he spent quite a bit of his time. Thoughts?
The traction control can be turned off if necessary. It's nice (safe) to have on the road.

It's actually quite easy to disable - just push the button on the dashboard. There are very few times you'd ever need to turn it off, however. Off-roading is one of them.

It's built into the Vehicle Stability Control system, which is not only nice to have, it has been required on all light duty vehicles (1/2 ton trucks and smaller) since 2012MY.

Nuttin'. [thumbsup]
Mine gave me 8.5 years of totally trouble-free use. If I actually
needed another pickup I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I traded my 250 in for a 150 1 month ago. Fantastic truck. Excellent road manners, good pull from the Ecoboost, solid on unpaved/rutted tracks which is as extreme as I've used it on so far. Much better price and fuel economy than the tundra. Cue Randy's response in 3...2...1...
;)
My soul said I wanted another Jeep (my fourth), so my trusty F150 was swapped for one before the sometime-inevitable needs and repairs started in. I had intentions of buying another F150 to replace it, but at the time you couldn't get the EcoBoost in a regular cab shortbox with 4WD. :P
And now the news on the '14 F150 Tremor comes out. [bang]

That 250 was pretty nice too.
My '04 F150 burned up three transmissions in 17000 miles. Sold it after the last one was replaced. Never again.

But I moved recently and parking that big boy was creating problems.

I've heard of problems with 250 transmissions, but not with a 150 before. That sucks.

I loved my 99 F250 w/powerstroke when i lived out in the wide open west.....
not so much in N.E...
Any reason he has to have the full-size?
i love my Frontier

Biased or not, I'd still take the Tundra over the Titan.
The new full size Chevy/GMCs are coming very soon too. The GMCs look a lot better and you really can't go wrong with a pushrod V8 for reliability. I wish I waited instead of getting a Tacoma.

a full size gmc is a very different animal than a tacoma....

I couldn't agree with you more, but the new V6 gets better MPGs than my I4 and makes loads more HP/Torque. Best of both worlds.
Tundra vs Titan? I'd go Tundra, and I'm a Nissan fan. My dad has a Titan and hasn't had great luck with it.
When I was looking to replace my 02 F150 with a larger 4X4, I looked at all the players (except for Chevy, I'll never own one). The Tundra was the most powerful and IMO, the best looking. But, bang for the buck landed me in another F150 and I don't regret it. Love the truck, has plenty of power, and was priced appropriately. Now, this was in 09 and it has the 5.4 V8.
I still love the looks of the Tundras, but I can't justify the price difference.
I'd wait a couple months and get the new Dodge Ram 1500 diesel, it's supposed to be available in September.

The same engine in the Jeep gets 30mpg on the highway ;D
