Title: My S2R 800. A work in progress...
Post by: sweet8 on August 14, 2013, 06:14:51 PM
I just put on the exhaust from Mark at motocreations and figured now was a good time to show the bike. I still have a few more things I'd like to do (mostly paint wise), but I love it right now.

Bought some spare sparts and sprayed them with plasti dip. Going to swap them this weekend and see if I like the black with red frame look.

One hell of a nice bike.  I like your style.

Are those boom tubes?  How is the sound?

Also, what is the deal with your lower tree and headlight assembly?  Looks like you raised the lower tree and are using a different mount to the forks?

Plz post pics once you put the plasti-dipped parts on.

Thanks. And they are boomtubes. They're a bit louder than I thought, but I always wear earplugs so it doesn't bother me at all.

And yes, I removed the stupid u-bracket. It annoyed me. You'll need a pair of these http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-2116/Fork-Tube-Clamp-50mm/Detail (http://www.fastfromthepast.com/servlet/the-2116/Fork-Tube-Clamp-50mm/Detail). And you'll also need these for the headlight: http://www.cncracing.us/prodDetail.asp?ID=2870 (http://www.cncracing.us/prodDetail.asp?ID=2870) I found them at another website for half the price, but I can't find it right now.

And I should have the pics up later this weekend or early next week. Front forks and misc are getting painted this weekend.

Just waiting on the vintage Ducati decals for the tank.  Not sure how I feel about the black yet...I may have gone too far with it. lol.

That looks pretty good!

My only concern with the plastidip is it may wear off where your knees hug the tank and get a purplish hue after a bit of sun exposure.

Yeah, that thought crossed my mind. I'm not too worried about my knees rubbing it down as the base coat of the tank is black.  If it does become a problem, I'll just slap on some 3m protection film. The fading could be a problem, but I've heard it should last. I put 5 or 6 coats on.

Freaking sick.  Love the black.  You didn't go too far.

What did you use to paint your forks and lower tree?  The only thing left to paint is your rear swing arm :)

Thanks. And the swingarm is definitely on the to do list!  I used plasti dip on the forks and both trees as well.

If you are not trying to achieve the "matte" finish then maybe the Plasti-Dip "glossifier" clear cloat on top will help protect the rubbings of the knees.

Plasti-Dip is very durable.  People used them on their car wheels with no problems and easy part is that you can always re-apply them with a spray can.

...

The matte black is screaming for a gloss red racing stripe. Maybe that means Plasti-Dip on your original plastics, and masking out a stripe?
