Hopefully during their bye week, UM was able to extract their collective heads from their backsides.

at least the current BCS stupidity appears to be almost over.
of course, someone will figure out a way to tilt the playoffs to big market teams again...
I never got into Football. It always seemed a bit odd to me. What kinda man sits around watching and cheering for a bunch of other men that are wearing hot pants and shoulder pads while reaching up between each others legs catching pointy balls........ Just when that gets weird they hug and slap each others bums when they get their pointy ball into an "end zone". Just where are they touching down anyway? ;D

There was no point. I simply think it funny. ;D
I do not watch any sports at all. Many years ago I took a really large guy tandem paraglidiing. While we were flying he started to get a bit queasy so I tried to make him talk a bunch to distract him. So one of the questions I asked him was what he did for a living. He said the the played for the Bears. My response was "Kinda big for a baseball player aren't ya"?
The funny part was that I was not trying to be funny. His response? "Don't watch a lot of football do you"? Turns out he was/famous player......
You know what I think is funny? Trolling a college football thread about how you think football is stupid?
If you've never been to a night game at the Shoe or Death Valley, listened to the jingle of keys at the Big House, tailgated in any college town, watched Boomer Sooner drive a wagon accross the field or war eagle fly around the stadium, or just been with 100K of your closest friends screaming your head off on a third down then I feel sorry for you.
Where I come from and for a lot of places accross America college football is life. It elicits so much emotion; the highest of the highs and lowest of the lows, anger and hate for sure (Michigan Sucks Zilbert ;D) and really just gives a lot of people something to look forward to in the fall and every week during the season.
Really you can think what you want about football but please leave it out of this thread becuase this is something we love and cherish.
[thumbsup]
Very well said. Though as a Texas fan, the primary emotions I associate with football this year are shame, sadness, and rage ;D
Where else can someone root for The U and Northwestern, since they're playing against the make the beast with two backseyes?
Come on Carlos, I haven't commented on a football thread in over a year and automatically I get this? ;D I can't wait to see how many interceptions Gardner throws this week.
Urban we'll be taking his nation's longest winning streak to Ryan Field and will walk out with #18 in a row.
I am very concerned with Clemson and Oregon/Stanford. Might keep my Buckeyes out of the NC game.
I have friends, yes, I actually do have some friends, from Clemson that have been waiting for quite some time for someone to say that they're worried about their team.

Grow a sense of humor. Show me anywhere that I said football is stupid. Go ahead I dare ya! If you like it it is ok, I don;t think you less nor do I think you stupid. I have however gotten a ton of laughs with my little analogy and while you do not seem to have much a sense of humor many do.

I really wanted to let this go but I'm stuck at work and found this; the definition of Internet Troll.
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroÊŠl/, /ˈtrÉ'l/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion
Dude, you're right you didn't outright call us stupid but you did imply it and now I'm pretty sure you're infering that football players and fans are gay. One of my good friends is a 6'8" Former Buckeye Defensive End. I'd like to see what you have to say to him about all the ass slapping. I'll pm you the address of where we're watching the game tonight if you want me to. I'd love to see you there so you can see what it's like here in Columbus on a Game Day. The city is taken over by Buckeye football, bars are filled with people cheering and having a great time. Maybe you could see why some on here love it so much. Or come here some time and I'll take you to a game. There is nothing like being in a stadium with 105,000 other people cheering the team to victory. Maybe I'll make a believer out of you.
But really though man you're taking me all wrong. I was just trying to give you a glimpse of why we love college football. Its about the on field product for sure but it's also about the bands, pagentry, the rivalries, the cheering, the agony of defeat and the thrill of victory. It's about being apart of something bigger than you. We all have our own stress and problems and when I'm watching my team play that's all I think about just like when I'm riding.

I may not follow it but I don't dislike it. Nor do I think football or football players or fans are gay. Hell pro ball players tend to have the hottest girls. kinda hard to be gay when your hogging up the hotties. I actually thought you all would laugh because if you choose not to be offended it is a pretty funny thought train. I have been telling that joke in bars for years, usually during football games. This is the first time anyone actually got offended.......
I guess it is the lack of hearing a "tone" in a post......... oh well I am not offended you are, just disappointed.

You better believe I straight puckered for most of that game. Lot of doom and gloom here in Cbus but Northwestern was calling that the biggest game in program history. At night, on the road, 3 turnovers and they still won.
Defense is not quite there yet. I'd say Bama, Oregon, Stanford, Florida State are all better than us. Not too sold on Clemson quite yet.
If any of those teams go undefeated and get in ahead of OSU I don't think I'd have much of an argument at this point. Buy comes at a great time and schedule is much easier from here on out till scUM.
Impressive to see Northwestern hang around that long...
Of course, that loss was exactly what they were doing all season last year. 3 games they led going into the 4th that they ended up losing.
If it wasn't for Carlos, The Buckeyes wouldn't have had an offense to even talk about Saturday.
As much as I would like to see the Big Ten return to the "Show", I don't think that Ohio State has the weapons needed to make it and actually win it this year.
There were SO many good/interesting games on Saturday night I think I wore by DVR and remote out!

I guess I can see this as a reason Michigan lost but I have to say its disapointing to me a Buckeye fan to be pulling for Michigan to win and see them choke so badly. This was a Penn State team that Indiana beat by 20 the week before, Indiana. Not to mention Michigan was coming off a buy. Michigan should be winning these types of games easily. The O-line play and play calling (27 tries at running up the middle to only gain 1 yd?) is attrocious.
I'm honestly not trying to troll here but I'm curious about how you Michigan fans on here see Hoke? All I see is a guy who seems to say the right things and is getting good players but I don’t see any development or real coaching. He’s either standing on the sidelines with no headset and arms crossed or right in the face of a guy yelling at him. He’s basically won a game against the worst OSU team in 50 years and a BCS bowl against an awful VT team and nothing else. I know he’s a “Michigan Man†but its year three and I don’t see you as being any better than under Rich Rod. Are you guys starting to feel like the honeymoon is over? I saw his comments from his presser today and I’ve got to say that after a game like that if Urban had those same things to say I would be irate. Again, not trying to troll. I genuinely want Michigan to be better.
You need Michigan to be better for the "strength of schedule". This is why I never wish for FSU, or any team that will eventually play The U, to lose until game day. The system is just setup like that.

It's definitely frustrating.
Michigan wasn't coming off a bye week either. They had beaten Minnesota the prior week.
Michigan's O line is weak. A direct result of poor recruiting by DickRod. The current line is young and small. Having an All-American in Taylor Lewan getting hurt early in the game didn't help, either. This will improve the balance of the year and in the future.
Devin is still prone to making mistakes. Because of the lack of running game due to the poor O line, there's a bigger burden on him.
I'm not sure what happened with Brendan Gibbons missing all of the FGs late in the game. He had been rock solid (16 straight FGs) leading up to the Penn State game.
I'd much rather have Brady Hoke than DickRod.
I think you'll see the entire conference get better in the coming years. They have to get better. And they will.
Patience is a virtue.

I will be running out of patience when OSU doesn't get into the Championship game because of our weak ass conference.
I'd wager that OSU won't be contending for the national championship at the end of the year.
Strength of schedule won't be the reason, either.
The whole Lloyd Carr to RichRod to Brady Hoke transition has been nothing but a pain the ass. RichRod’s biggest failing as a coach was on the defensive side of the ball (obviously). The offense put up incredible numbers against bad teams, ok numbers against good teams and horrible numbers against very good teams but I think the answer is fairly obvious (I’ll get to that).
His system of offense FLAT OUT WORKS. Look at the numbers being put up by Oregon, Baylor, A&M, Washington, Clemson etc………..
There is no question that the spread option works when there is talent in place. Let’s get back to RichRod at Michigan: the talent (little that it was) left by Lloyd Carr was not suited to the spread option, no surprise there. Not coincidentally RRod’s first year they were horrible. They had pro-style players playing in a spread system. Getting into his second and third years you could see that as the players picked up the system they became increasingly proficient at it even though across the board they were still not the type of players suited to play in that system. I think that is why against weak opponents huge numbers were put up, it was all down to scheme. As the opponent talent level increased the offensive output decreased dramatically because while the players understood the system and could execute they were not always the “right†players to succeed. So, due to that and other reasons (mostly the HISTORICALLY bad defense) RRod was fired.
Then, a couple of years ago when Hoke was hired……..guess what kind of players FILLED the roster? That is right, RRod’s spread offense kids! Now Hoke wants to run a pro-style offense with the “wrong†kids. One of the many things that Hoke has done that RRod failed miserably at is to scheme to the available talent. And because Hoke came from the Michigan family tree he will be given something NEVER extended to RRod, patience and acceptance. (Though to be honest RRod brought a lot of problems onto himself even though a lot of university supporters never even gave the guy a CHANCE).
So I think Hoke will be fine in time, he is a HELL of a recruiter. What is clear is that the O-line is FAR from being good.
Wow, I had no idea my quick response was going to turn into THIS!!
Mark
Go Blue!
I've got to say as an outsider I absolutely disagree with you on Hoke scheming to available talent. I think he's a great recruiter and of course he's a Michigan Man. I get it that he had to use Richrod's players but he tried to make them fit his system. He's trying to make Gardner a pocket passer which we can all easily see he'll never ever be.
Last year he had arguably the most dynamic athlete in the country and couldn't figure out how to use him especially in big games. Gardner and Drob were gashing OSU then he just stopped using those types of plays in the second half. 3 turnovers later you lose a game you had a great chance of winning.
Look at just this PSU game, he doesn't have the talent to run power at all but ran it 27 times for 27 yards I formation right up the middle. The spread that you do run works somewhat and he just completely went away from it. I get that Hoke is a defensive coach and leans on Borgess as the OC but man your offense is the definition of insanity right now. Then in his press conference he comes out and basically says he's happy with how things are going. That would drive me nuts.
I totally agree with you however on giving him a chance. I think once he does get enough recruiting classes in hopefully Michigan will be much better. You do now move to a tougher side of the conference in 2014. And also I could easily be wrong on this but this is just what I see watching them play. Looks like a lot of people on MGOBLOG think so too.
Okay sorry guys for the derailment I really am trying to be a better and more objective fan now.
I for one can't wait to watch Clemson/FSU this weekend. Time to see if FSU and Winston are for real. Both he and Boyd are certainly fun to watch.
I haven't offered up any input because I mostly agree with metallimonster and that makes me want to masturbate with sandpaper and use rubbing alcohol for lube. ;D
Oh, don't get me wrong, Hoke and Borgess still want to run their style of offense there is NO doubt about that but they HAVE to start transitioning to the pro-style at SOME point. I fully agree with your analysis of 27 rushes for 27yards, why not give up at 20 rushes, or 15? Trust me, there is a LOT to be unhappy about specifically regarding how the Penn State game went coaching wise.
All that said I am still optimistic.

When it comes to big games FSU always plays up even if they are ranked low. I know they are fielding a freshman QB and Death Valley is no joke for a visiting team, but I just think that FSU will pull it off with their special teams.

Wow, FSU destroyed Clemson! Now I'm worried that my home coming might be ruined when they play The U.

What carnage....Love it!
Got to say I was a little surprised at how Clemson laid down for Florida State. Clearly Bama and Oregon are very good and so is FSU. I just wonder how Winston who seems very confident (doesn't really come off too cocky) and a very good player and FSU will handle adversity.
OSU keeps winning I don't think they are up there with the other 3 yet. Offense is finally clicking on all cylinders but I expect the d to be much better than this. Something to be said for winning 19 in a row no matter what conference you play in. Urban's teams just find a way to win. Also weird stat of the day OSU will play 5 teams in a row with the other team coming off a bye. Thats not easy to do.
Speaking of that PSU this weekend for my Buckeyes. Hackenburg has played very well. Different story against our d line and in the Shoe at night. I think they keep it close for a half and OSU's depth and running game pulls away in the 2nd.
Two big games in the PAC 12 that I'm looking forward to watching.

Well finally I felt like I was watching the Buckeye team I thought we would see all year.
Braxton is now 7th in the country in passing efficiency which is a scary proposition considering his ability to make plays by running.
Defense is still coming along but I don't think any team in the country could stop this offense consistently.
Big one between GoBlow and Little Brother this week. It's time to see if Sparty is for real. I think they win easily.

Not trying to start an argument, but do you *really* see OSU being able to battle Alabama *or* FSU? I mean they struggled against Iowa for cripes sake...and Northwestern...and Wisconsin...
OSU's D is about as good as Michigan's Offensive line this year. [laugh]
Not that my team even stands a chance against them but the Buckeyes were stronger last year on the D side of the ball. This year has me doubting that they get anything more than the Rose Bowl...and not the one that gives out the crystal football.
Come on man, really? Really? Doesn't last night make a perfect example for how extremly difficult it is to win every game on your schedule? Stanford took it to Oregon but lost to Utah. The Buckeyes with nothing to play for last year won every game and they still haven't lost. Say what you want but that's got to mean something.
They held Wisky to 1/3 of their average rushing yrds and if not for a screw job by the PAC 12 officials Wisky would be a top 10 team. Haven't given up a rusher of 100 yds all year, lead the Big Ten in Sacks and are top 9 in scoring D in the country and Top 5 in scoring offense in the country. Not to mention they've had a pick in 10 straight games. They struggled a little early but they were replacing all but 1 starter in the entire front 7. Things are starting to gel now. In the last 2 games they've given up 14 pts. 7 of which were garbage time. Oh and that's against a team that put up about 50 on Michigan. Not to mention Braxton is now completely healthy and is top 7 in the nation in pass efficiency.
You know what's worse than Michigan's offensive line? Their D-line. You made MSU look like an offensive juggernaut. I just can't wait to make the beast with two backs up Hoke's perfect home record. Usually I get nervous no matter how good or bad Michigan is but they are freaking awful on both sides of the ball this year. Maybe you should wait to pass judgement on Iowa until your team plays them. Yeah they've lost a few games but the total losses for Iowa's opponents is like 3. 2 from wiskey and 1 from MSU.
I do think Ohio State could hang with any team in the country. Everyone thought Oregon was unstoppable until last night. You see what a good offensive line can do to teams and I don't care if you hate the Buckeyes and think they are the most over rated team ever you have to see that their O-line is one of the best in the country.
Everyone likes to bash the Buckeyes for their schedule but why don’t you go ahead and look at the records of the teams in front of them. Bama, FSU, and Oregon all have played schedules with opponent win loss records below Ohio States opponents all of which are sub 500 except Ohio State. Not to mention that both Bama and Oregon have played the same number of ranked teams as OSU. Other than Bama the SEC is way down this year and we just saw what the PAC 12 has to offer. Baylor is what it is but Oklahoma has to be the worst top 10 team since… well since Michigan. I’m not saying they’d win against Bama or FSU but I’d bet Nick Saban would rather play FSU than Ohio State. Please just go ahead and really watch one of Ohio State games and come back here and tell me they can’t score on anyone. Unlike Baylor and Oregon they can do everything offensively behind that o line not just get into track meets like the other two.
We’ll see how the season plays out.
Sorry guys, I know Zilbert said he didn't want to start an argument but I'm really sick of hearing how my team with the nation's longest winning streak is not worthy because of the conference they play in. It really sucks to have to see it freaking everywhere. You'd feel the same too if you were in my place.
OOOOhhhhh that was painful :P
$100 to the charity of your choice if the Buckeyes actually make it to the show and win it.
But you willing to do the same should they not?
LSU brought their A game, but it wasn't enough. Roll Tide.

Zil, I really wish I could but we are scrimping and saving for our 2 week alaska honeymoon next year. I have to do my charity work this year by doing not giving. Though I love the idea so much more than betting eachother money. Maybe after xmas and if they make it I might be able to.
I am willing to be that they have more than -69 rush yards in the next two games. I mean an FCS team ran for more than 250 against Nebraska.
I am leaving in a little bit for Chi-Town to attend the Mich v NW game on Saturday. Two bad teams playing each other could make for an exciting game.
And tickets should be easy to come by!!
Go Blue!

The first 3.25 quarters of the Ball State vs NIU game was the stuff classics are made of...and then it alllll fell apart for Ball State.
Jordan Lynch is a pretty solid Heisman candidate.
He has as many passing yards as some of the guys from the big schools, has the same completion percentage, has similar TD/Int ratio, has double the rushing yards and 5 more rushing TDs than the highest number of rushing TDs from any other Heisman "watch" lister.
The kid is a solid QB although, I am interested in seeing them against a tougher opponent but I get the impression they aren't like Boise State who crumbled each time they had to play a tough team.
Zil,
Couldn't agree with you more. Watching that game all I could think was why isn't this kid getting more consideration. I also think AJ Mccarron deserves to be higher on the list. All the kid does is win.
That being said, I think Manziel gets it again. This makes me want to puke because it would put him with Archie Griffin. Just looking at his game I'd say he deserves it because he is so fun to watch and so good. But what a make the beast with two backs face outside of the game. Archie is so classy and was so so good and I really don't want Manziel associated with him. Really though if he wins it I wouldn't complain. He is really good.
Sure do wish Braxton wouldn't have went down for three games or he'd be right in the thick of it.
It makes me wanna vomit to agree with you, but pretty much your entire post is spot on...even the [puke] part about Braxton. [laugh]
Side note, my wife bought my dog a Jim Tressel-esque sweater vest in Buckeye colors...Pretty sure that is grounds for a 100% non-contested divorce. :-*
That's hilarious. Tell her you'd rather the dog freeze than look like Tress!
I'm pretty sure the courts will see your side ;D

BTW, the U is out of all the polls while Duke made its way on. That's just sad.
Arizona put a serious beat down on Oregon. [clap] [clap] That should shut them the make the beast with two backs up for sure.
OSU busted up Baylor. [clap]
Meanwhile, Alabama plays Chattanooga. [roll]
I have no doubt that Alabama is the #1 team...but WTF. Playing a lower conference team at this point in the season??

I hate that part of scheduling in college ball, I think everyone plays really weak teams during the year.

Most only do it at the very beginning of the season though. Make fun of the Pac-12 all you want, but they only play conference games after the 2nd or 3rd week. Playing a FCS team this late in the year is pathetic...is almost like having a bye.

Interesting article. [thumbsup]
Still...looking back on the last 4 seasons (and I'd bet longer)...Alabama always schedules a "cupcake" game over this weekend. It's lame, and obvious that they do it intentionally to gain momentum and give their players a break towards the end of the year. Meanwhile the Pac-12 (as an example) teams continue to beat each other up in conference, all of the "cupcakes" having been played in the first 3 weeks.
Not to take away from Alabama obviously being great, just sayin...
Only one thing to say this week;
make the beast with two backs Michigan
Ohio hasn't even lost yet and yer already slinging around the insults.
(See what I did there? :-*)
Ha good one.
Hey its THE GAME and I grew up in the 90's so I know anything can happen. Stupid Tim Biankabatuka (however the hell you spell his name)
Since 2001 the team with the most rushing yards has won this game. I like OSU's chances to do that considering we are the best rushing team in the league and top 5 nationaly.
My hope is to get you guys to more negative yards rushing than MSU. Shazier had 20 tackles and 5 tfl last week I'm guessing he gets more than 5 this week. OSU's d line has the most sacks in the Big Ten and even you would say that your Oline is absolutely terrible.
I think your d is good enough to keep you in it for a while but Gardner is going to throw it to the wrong team at least twice.
Well boys & girls, the 'Iron Bowl' is tomorrow and you can cut the tension in Alabama with a knife. This is definitely the most significant iron bowl in a long time if not ever. [clap] [popcorn]
Ballsy call...can't say it was a bad one either though. Play for the win in a game like that.
Good job to the Buckeyes.
About 99% sure it's gonna be 'Bama and FSU unless Auburn can make some magic...
Got to give it up to Gardner. I thought he played awesome. Can't believe it was that close.
Jesus 'Bama...yer killin' me...
Holy Shit!! :o War Eagle
Well shit...
Slow, Tide.
What just happened? OSU in the driver seat to the championship game? Damn you Tide!!!!!!
Good job Auburn!
Weird Saturday for me. Sometimes felt like I was watching the twilight zone during THE GAME. I just couldn't beleive that the Michigan team I was watching was the same as the previous 4-5 weeks. OSU's defense are not world beaters but their not as bad as Gardner and Co. made them look. If I'm a Michigan fan I'm asking where this offense was all season.
The calls by the officals after the fight were ridiculous. I'm fine with them throwing out the two OSU players but at least 4-5 Michigan players threw punches too. At one point 6 of them were surrounding Wilson and beating on him.
On to Michigan State. We'll see if they are legit or not. Their number 1 defense has not played an offense in the same planet as Ohio State's.
Good to finally have the Buckeyes controlling their own destiny. Of course if you watch ESPN you would think that they should be bowing down to Auburn.

I'm not gonna touch this one...sufficed to say, a LOT more players on both sides should have been tossed and weren't.

Agreed.
Or really what should happen is not letting the refs control the game. Most of that fight was their fault for not getting to it so quick enough. They made some bad calls on both sides of that game. Its a hated rivalry some of that stuff should just be left to offsetting penalties and be done with it.
Oregon St place kicker during pre-game warm up on sat.

Congrats to Winston. I'm really glad he wasn't charged and that they made sure to get this done before this weekend and the heisman voting. He probably deserves to win it and has been great all year.
The story seemed fishy to me the whole time and I'm really glad his life wasn't ruined by this.
SPARTANS!!! [clap]

I'd wager that OSU won't be contending for the national championship at the end of the year.
Strength of schedule won't be the reason, either.
Wasn't Michigan, but lil' brother got the job done. [thumbsup]
Not to rub salt in open wounds but I am pretty sure "I told you so" is warranted.
Was a solid 3.25 quarters but in the end, the better team won.

It is something that everyone should experience in person at least once in their life. [thumbsup]

sorry about that ;)
Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. :P
Turned in the UM fan card last year. Didn't waste any time watching them this past season. Looks like they performed just as expected in this bowl though.
Heading up to Pasadena to see the other home team. We'll see how they do.
make the beast with two backsing UM! They showed no heart and no coaching. They completely lost focus after the FSU game. First thing they need to get rid of that supposed defensive coordinator. Throughout the prior years at least they could count on the defense even when the offense was terrible. They should bring back Shannon.
This kid Jordan Zumwalt for UCLA is a wrecking machine. [clap]
Great Rose Bowl! [clap]

Spartans do it in the fashion that they used all year. Defense on 4th down seals the deal.
I'm happy to see this win but may wonder if with next years playoffs how far we might have gotten. Next year should be fun too with so many players returning.

Gonna order some blue cheese tomorrow. [clap]
I have nothing but double Tiger love tonight.
I gotta go with FSUck. It's the only team from the ACC to make it to the big game in a long time.
I'm rooting for Auburn to give the state 5 straight.
Great game. [clap] Congrats to FSU.
Crazy game!
Not a great couple bowl games for the SEC! Both tough games though.
Auburn was dominating FSU in that first half. How anyone could think that they were double digit underdogs is crazy!
