So which one?
I am still on 4 and considering it.
I'll get the 5s.
i'm considering upgrading from the 5 to the 5s since the trade-in sites are offering me $420 for my iphone5.

I'll wait for the next one. Not enough reason to swap out a 5.

Those are popular on TOF. :D
Getting old and want a larger screen so NO....droid here I come. Although after watching this I'm re-evaluating :P

my votes are for boobies and neither of those phones....if I were to get an Apple phone, it'll probably be when the 8SC Nekid Siri Booby Edition comes out!

on an interesting side note, i just helped someone set up their (new to them) .99 cent iPhone 4 (of course, under contract.) i was pleased to see the following..
1) you can now download the real google maps with navigation, and the voice, turn by turn directions actually works (this was not the case when the 4 was new.) the earlier version (when the 4s first came out) was worthless without voice.
2) you can download the gmail app (if it's your preference) and it is almost identical to gmail on native devices.
3) you can install chrome as the browser of choice.
the mostest bestest part about these apps.....they are not just skinned internet links like they used to be.

I like my iPhone a lot, almost as much as I like boobies.

^^ What bp said. [thumbsup]
Only reason I have an iP4 is because work issued it to me and took away my Blackberry. :P Since most of my mobile work is email, I want my Blackberry back. Battery on the Bb also lasted 4-6 days, vs 1-2 for the iP4.
For personal use, I have a Droid Razr Maxx. I definitely prefer it to the iOS devices. Bigger screen, better radios, more flexible/configurable OS. The browser is a lot more capable than the iOS version of Safari, too. Just wish there were more options for flight/nav apps on Android. There are a few and it's a growing market, but the iPad with Foreflight is still the number 1 combo. If I want an electronic kneeboard, I may have to suck it up and go with an iPad or iPad Mini.
Have a 4s now and will wait for the ip6.

Argh! This is the only reason I am thinking of switching to an I-phone. I can't use foreflight, I can't use hot air (data logger) and I can't use my on-site card reader to bill people. I have to drag my I-Fad around and a cell phone......... Maybe we need to come up with some folks to build us something that works on Android. Especially as it is now 80% of the market. I can also save 30.00 a month ditching my I-pad cell subscription........
I don't want an I-phone........
I got the new 5s.
It's nice.
My old iPhone's microphone only worked in speaker mode during voice calls.
Very odd.
Decided to wait the last 2 months to upgrade.
Got lucky on Friday, I didn't have to wait in line.
Best Buy had one last 64gb space grey model at 4:30pm. No line, no fuss, easiest purchase I could have made.
I like the iphone. I've had once since the first 2007 edge network model. I still have that phone. It's a little beat up, has part of the screen that's burnt out but it still works just fine. It sits in my home office connected to a small Bose audio system.
I do like the android based phones too. But I don't feel like learning a new OS, even if it's more simple to do than I imagine.
This 5s is notably faster than my 4. It's a fingerprint recognition feature is a welcome addition. My work email requires 6 digit or longer password on mobile devices. It can be a little exhausting entering that password multiple times a day just to access incoming text messages.
I'm digging this feature more than I thought I would.
Saw the 5s gold colored, it's more like a washed out gold. The gray is the way to go. Seemed a lot lighter than my iPhone4 or am I imagining it?
It is.
Feels about the same as the 5.
Squaretrade does most of the warranty repairs and replacements for phones. They just decided the 5s and 5c are not as durable as the previous version. As a habitual phone dropper, that is a bummer.
I just want to know why there is an absolute lack of quality flight and credit card reader apps on Android. Where is a smart ten year old kid when ya need them?
I don't want an I-phone but my business needs a couple of the APPS. Not fair. On the phone with Sprint now trying to upgrade.

Looked at that: Square is a full percentage point higher per transaction than I currently get through Chase. No option besides I-Fad stuff for their readers.

sounds like it's more of an "i need" than an "i fad" then...
that said, the chase paymentech website says they support android devices for their reader and mobile checkout product:

I'm rocking a tracfone to make the occasional phone call from, and using my iPad2 to death. So the plan is to get another iPad. I think the 5 is coming next month. The smart phones are to small to do anything with as far as I'm concerned.
HUH? They told me I needed the I-Pad!!! Grrrrr..... I still need to be able to have access to the Foreflight and the Hot Air Data logger apps. Neither are available on Android. Were it not for those two apps not having an Android equivalent I would move to the Droid HDmax. Had great luck with droids. Other than the I-pad I have not owned an Apple device before. The I-pad is nice when I travel ( :
Why would anyone upgrade from an earlier model to the 5c? to pay 100$ less? It just doesn't seem like this phone is really being marketed to the US as it is other countries.
I think the 5c is not really aimed at current iPhone users. In the US it is more marketed to folks who don't have a smartphone yet (yes, they do exist), and like you said: other countries where smartphone market share is low.
I won't say "developed world" vs "developing world", because as I found out from my well-traveled inlaws, many of the "developing" countries in SE Asia have higher smartphone market penetration than the US.
To be fair, the iOS devices are very user-friendly, and for "non computer people" I have been known to direct them to Apple products. Personally, being an engineer and power user, Android gives me the control I want. Plus, my RAZR Maxx has been just as reliable as my work-issued iPhone 4 and my wife's 4S.
Anyway... back to the thread... 5c vs 5s

That was sort of my point. Why would you even both buying a 5c if you are in the United States? It doesn't make much sense. I'd be curious to see the sales numbers of 5s vs 5c in the USA.
I had a friend upgrade from the 4 for the 5c for the price and color option.
To some people $100 can make a difference.
here's a thought for you in regards to the i5c....why does it come in colors when in the drop test I saw, it shatters the glass and you have to cover it up anyway in order to protect it from breaking/shattering....

Many on-line reviews of the 5c speculate Apple made the move to a plastic shell for a couple of reasons. One already mentioned above, price, lower production cost. Offers consumers that are likely to buy Android based smartphones an iOS alternative at a competitive price point.
The second, raw material availability. There have been rumors that iphone 5 sales were hurt by the lack of available material for production and the associated cost of production.
Another less popular theory is that Apple has timed this lower end model iPhone to capture the teens that may likely have grown up using the iPod Touch. Some of these kids may be coming into their first phone. So offering a low cost device may lure them to stay Apple customers as they grow older.
So to answer your question, the point of the plastic shell was to increase profit margins, not to offer a more protective shell.

two weeks ago Gazelle was only offering 200-250 for the iphone 5. They never offered $450. Selling on ebay is probably the best way to unload it, that is, if you want to hassle with it.

16gb, 32gb, or 64gb? mine is a 64gb.
also, here's an excerpt from my best buy quote:
Here is an inventory of the specifications for this estimate:
Quoted Value
ITEM AT&T APPLE IPHONE 5 64GB - WHITE
What is the condition of the item? Perfect
Is Water Damage Indicator Active (Battery or Body)? NO
Is Serial Number or MEID/IMEI Present & Complete? YES
Is the AC adapter / charger included? YES
Is the user lock and master reset codes cleared (or set to 1234)? YES
Quote Total: $420.00
That's rather surprising. I wonder if they would actually pay that out. I know it is a quote, just depends if that quote is binding. That's a pretty good deal for a trade in, but you would still have to pick up the remainder of the new device to the tune of 400$ which is ridiculous. The retail cost for phones is out of control.

the larger storage options always hold their value better.
regarding retail costs, they're an absolute bargain compared to my first two phones, a motorola microtac ($2500) and startac ($1000). unsubsidized prices for mobile phones have always been "ridiculous"...
I think as the market moves away from subsidized phone+plan combos, you will start to see the handset makers compete more on device cost.
They will in all likelihood never be "cheap". These are ultra-compact multi-band radios with high-power processors, ultra-compact battery technology, licensed/supported multi-function operating systems, and require expensive rare-earth minerals. Some of these new smartphones are more powerful than full-on laptops and desktops of several years ago... and they fit in the palm of your hand.

Dang I forgot about that model. I had that phone too. It was the "it" phone in my parts back in the day! LOL

Best Buy pays you with a BB gift card, not hard cash.
