First time ever the steadicam was used in a motion picture and is still the best scene ever.

Most folks are clueless. ;)
I don't get it. ???
;D
I did not know it was the first.
I think they did a similar shot in the movie Waiting.
pretty cool tidbit.
gave in and bought a steadicam for my go pro and slr. didnt think i could pull off the quality if I DIYed.
Cool. One of the Youtube commentors noted that they didn't have to walk through the kitchen at all and, in fact, they exited the kitchen at the same point they entered. I'm at my office and supposed to be working..........so I've had a lot of time to look at the video. Compare the fire hose at 0:54 and 1:26, the fire alarm on the wall at 0:54 and 1:26. The crates seen on the right side of the frame at 0:58 were moved to a different position by 1:22. Don't know anything about cinematography but it seems pretty amazing to pull all that off and deal with action, dialogue, lighting etc in one continuous shot. It's so well done that we miss the technique in real time.
The Boogie Nights Steadicam opening, posted as a related video, is pretty cool too.

Marathon Man was released before that movie.
Upon further review, I lied. [drink] Still the best scene ever. ;)

Marathon Man was released before that movie.
yup, but bound for glory was actually shot first.
i wish i could find a link to the interview/documentary i once saw about kubrick/brown and the steadicam/tracking shots in the shining.
interesting stuff, considering how cutting edge it was in the late-70s-80s, and how we just take this technology for granted now.
here are five steadicam shots from pt anderson, including the opening scene from boogie nights with animations showing the camera movement:
