A veteran's life well-lived:

It's surreal to visit Bataan and see the route of the march. Walking that with no food and little or no water in the heat of summer... it's hard to fathom. It's hot and humid because you're on a tropical island, surrounded by warm seas. But Bataan is on the west side of Luzon, and gets very little rain in summer. Most weather comes in from the Pacific side, and the summer rains get squeezed out by the mountains of eastern Luzon.
