They used to use those and Model-A's in places that would make a Unimog flinch. Great old footage!
This is why the guys with the jacked up 4x4s have it wrong. Those super wide boggers give float and coat your truck with mud for coolness, but give much less pressure on the contact patch. A narrow contact patch will dig way deeper into gooey mud and find the solid ground for some traction so long as clearance was sufficient.

Awesome vehicle! What year and model is that?
'Mogs are great. That's how I go around the Outback back in 2001. At least when you do something, you do it right! That quite the hole!

It is a 1967 406. It was imported from the Netherlands in 2005. It is a beast.

Perfect companion vehicle for the Ural.
Do it!
(If I had that coin rattling around, I'd buy it. I've got no earthly use for it, but I'd love to have it.)
Unimogs are awesome!

They don't call tall, skinny off road tires pizza cutters for nothin'. ;)
Love the Mog. My old Pinzgauer never did get stuck, and we tried..... Somewhere I have some crazy photos. It is all about ground clearance. Mogs and Pinzies have portal axles so while anyone can lift a standard truck 4 feet in the air, without portals they still only clear the height of their axles.

There's a reason the military went with tall skinny tires with big lugs. Are there better mud tire, yes, are there better sand tires, yes, are there better road (pavement) tires, yes, are there better snow tires, yes, are there any tires that work in just about any condition, no.
