I got my headers back from being ceramic coated today. They turned out great. QC coatings coated inside and out. Can't wait to get them back on the bike with the new Comp Werkes pipe.
They also powder-coated my Rizoma rear axle sliders gloss black. I will be taking my business back there for sure. Will have them do my sprocket carrier, handlebars, and handlebar clamp next.
Whatcha think?

damn.
Looks great! It is gonna make that swing arm jump like it is supposed to. Were it not for the extra noise I would have gone that route. Cops here can be a little rough on exhaust systems.
The exhaust looks amazing!!!
Can't wait to see it on the bike!
Thanks guys n gals. ;D
Should be on within a week or so.
Sorry for the crappy cell pics. I almost got it finished. (Too many [drink]) Just an update, I will post better pics and eventually a video....check back later. Overall, I am very happy.

Dexter your bike looks amazing! I like the blacked out headers as I haven't been a big fan of the rerouting ducati did with the newer gen monsters. But that blends it in well. Additionally you have the better benefit of less felt heat with the ceramic coat. Did you get it locally done or can you recommend the place?

Thanks! The work was done by QC coatings in Utica MI. They do fantastic work.
Now that looks like a proper exhaust. [clap]

Dexter, did you forget to have the heat shield powder coated? ;D
I haven't touched it since I mocked it up there. I may do carbon for the heat shield and I am def doing the flapper cover in carbon. :D
Well done! very Diesel-esque
Adam, you should have the guy that anodized your stuff do the rear sprocket carrier. Then you could toss on a black sprocket also [evil]

You read my mind. I have already planned on doing that! I think I might wait until next winter though. I want to focus on getting it all put back together and come spring, buy the power commander V and spend the money having it fine tuned with this exhaust, MWR power up kit and filter.
Looks great. Your choice of beer shows you are a man with impeccable taste and wisdom. Miller Lite FTW.

Thanks,
The job cost me $110. Not bad at all. I'm very happy with the work.
wow.. thats less than any shop would charge to powder coat! is the ceramic coat better/worse for high temp ? longer lasting.. etc?

Well, ceramic is the only option when coating the headers. Powder coating will not withstand the heat from our bikes.
is that price for both pipes? also, im assuming you dismantled it.. and sent it out to them for ceramic coating? Any idea what a shop might charge for something like this. Im not that handy and I know I wont be able to take them off my bike.. get it coated and put back on. I definetly .. definetly.. definetly!!!! want that look!

I did take all the pipes off the bike. I took it to a local shop here in Utica MI. The $110 was for both header pipes. The muffler came from comp werkes already ceramic coated. I have no clue what they would charge for disassembly and reassembly though. Do you have a shop around you that you can call? Would be your best bet.
Beautiful. Very tastefully done.

Thanks Jim. Can't wait until spring.
I installed my Sargent seat as well. Should make the longer rides I'm planning for this summer much more comfortable. Now I'm gonna have to buy the wife one for her 796. Damn it. :)

Dexter, you just need one of these to complete the look.

BTW I have a flawless stock rear carrier I could loan you. If yours is in good shape you can have mine anodized and then send me your stock carrier when you trade it out. I have all of my stock parts and plan on keeping them but see no harm in making your downtime shorter. :)
Thanks bud! I def want that shock too. I think I am going to wait until next winter to do the front and rear sprockets, chain and more powder-coating (carrier, handlebars, clamp and top triple.
My main reason for waiting is that when I complete ALL the mods I want to do, I get bored and want to start something new. So I am gonna stretch out the mods. (As much as I can). ;)
What shock is that? Did you have the spring powdercoated?
Ohlins 737 - Powdercoated Spring. Just got tired of the yellow one [thumbsup]
I don't get bored with it when I am done. I just [Dolph] more. [beer]
That is probably the way it will be with this bike, being that its my first Duc.
Can anyone recommend a good matte black vinyl wrap for my forks?
I have heard 3m and Avery make decent stuff. Anyone else?
Thanks!
Nooooooo! [puke] Vinyl wrap does not belong on your bike Dexter. Too much work and classy parts to do something so cheesy. Just my opinion of course...

Gosh, i guess i never thought of it as cheesy. Some wraps (the ones i would get) looked pretty pricey, and if done right, looked pretty cool IMO. I just want an all blacked out look. I guess i could look into hard anodizing....
I have seen some really nice vinyl wrapped forks. What is the tolerance between the fork tube and triple? I have heard anodzing can make reassembly difficult. Slip fit is 0.003", which is about the thickness of hard anodized coatings.
YMMV
- cheers [coffee]

Yeah i think that is about right. It wi;; be a high end wrap job or nothing. This long MI winter is killing me! >:( If i could ride, i would just keep the extra money in my pocket for gas, buuuuut thats not the case.
I had not thought about the fork clearance with hard anodizing. Guess I will have to hold out for some black Ohlins tubes if I want to go that route. [evil]
Dexter all the money you are saving on tires and gasoline this winter you should be able get some BST wheels and some Ohlins tubes..... [evil]

You're a bad, bad man.
If I spend money on new wheels, i will buy the ones in my new avatar pic.

I wrapped my wifes 695 forks a long time ago never totally happy with the look or finish.
Really hard to avoid the odd crease but you can hide any by rotating them .
Plasti dip has a good matt finish its cheap and easily removed come time to service the forks.
I have used it a lot on my car such as badges and wheels.
Also blacked a few things out on her newer bike a 696 and its lasted .
I sprayed her handelbars and they came out really well.

If you mean the old one with the wrap

Agree with this 100%. Mainly tho because your bike has so many primo mods. I think wrap has it's place on small displacement, bare bones/utilitarian Monsters though. I'd do something like that when I rebuild my old 750. Chop the tail, stick a pair of eBay bar end mirrors on, wrap the forks and call it done.

Black anodizing would look sick on his bike! as for clearance issues that would be a perfect excuse for a custom set of IMA triples. :)
Oh sweet baby Jesus
Adam, The IMA's would look best if you got the 14k gold ones.
(Damn I love spending his money) ;D
Hahaha. I already have my eyes set on the CNC racing black top triple. (If I don't get the stocker powdercoated.
Dude the IMA gonna be significantly less cash even factoring shipping from Italy and Patrick is so nice to deal with. Everything is custom made for each customer and the quality is insane. I'll send you a catalog if you'd like.
