So here I am trying like hell to buy my aunt and uncle a neat Christmas gift. They are both retired and have everything they have ever wanted and traveled everywhere they wanted to go.
A couple of years back I bought them a weekend at The Ritz in Tahoe, nice mountain view suite with a private chair lift. While they loved it they would kill me if I spent that much money again. It is something they would not spend the money on themselves so it was worthwhile.
Anyway the point of starting this thread is to make use of the endless imagination on this site and see what ideas people may have for unique Christmas gifts. I am certain I am not the only one needing ideas so please toss them out there for all to see.
well, I joked with my brother about this once for him since he is more well off than me, and I once came up with the idea of buying him his grave plot to give to him at some juncture....it is a lil morbid, but I pitched by saying I am going to get him a 6 foot by 3 foot by 6 foot plot of land....and so it went...that doesn't sound like it would be appropriate in THIS situation...so my .04 might be to <wink wink> enroll them in a contest and recieve and hand them their "winning prize" if you think you could pull that off....perhaps something like an Alaskan Cruise next summer, or perhaps a trip with Backroads Tours ( which has a LOT of neat full service tours)
Give them the gift of snail mail. Address and stamp 12 or 24 envelopes, and once or twice a month write them a letter. It does not have to be a long letter.
I bet they would like that way better than anything you could buy.
dinner with bp
it's only $ 59.97
Do they have any charities that they favor?
It's cliche` but solid.
Got to avoid Cliche. The problem is my Aunt is not very exciting while my uncle can still spin kayaks in class five water. Thought about a blimp ride, she is scared. To top it all off nothing but nothing goes in their house as decorations unless very carefully thought out by my Aunt.
Christmas should be for kids. The second they no longer believe in Santa the gift giving is over. Can't tell ya the number of times I have watched grownups spend money they did not want to spend, buying other people things they did not want. Last year my Aunt bought my brother in law a chainsaw, the man can't change a tire....... Oh well it is what it is, now back to combing the web for answers.
Membership to a specialty bacon (or beer or wine or whutajoy candy stuff or coffee or monkey poo or....) that gets delivered once a month (or quarterly - depending on what it is).
LMT's idea is also stellar.
Ballroom dance lesson package.
Oil painting of them/their dog/their cat/all the kids and grandkids/whatever.

The best gift...just sayin'

One year when I was in college and flat-make the beast with two backsing-broke, I took my shoe shine kit and my sharpening stone home with me for winter break.
My dad got 6 pairs of shoes waterproofed and polished.
My mom got every non-serrated knife in the block honed to a razor edge.
She was still thanking me all the way into March because every time she pulled out a knife, it was still sharp, and that made her think of me.

;D
If they have everything, get them and dumpster. I'm sure something need to be tossed.
The best gift i ever got was a couple of plano tackle boxes full hand tied/made saltwater lures from my brother for striper fishing. Time/Thought > $ Spent
If they have everything, buy them Tupperware.
They need some place to put it.
Tupperware lol. If you could only see the shelves in the Kitchen.... Simply would not match. my Aunt is a bit of a freak with the house. One year I got her pink yard flamingos just so she would have to rush out and put them out before I came over.
