Was out delivering some parts today and came upon a cop car with the lights going, a couple other cars pulled over as well. I slowed as I came up on the scene.
There was a couple people standing at the side of the road next to a beautiful German Shepherd laying on his side, covered to his shoulder with a blanket. He had obviously just been hit.
I rolled by right as the officer leaned over and shot it.
Broke my heart.
:'(
:'(
I put my chesapeake down a couple months ago - no fun.
:'(
Good the dog was put out of the misery and pain of the event.
I have to give Rocky back tomorrow. I will hug him extra.

Title should be 'hug your pet'.
Still bummed about my buddy Bag, who I had to put down November 11 after the better part of 16 years of hanging out. Over the course of his last couple of weeks he had been drooling this terrible smelling saliva and was coughing. I took him to the vet thinking it might be an abcessed tooth or something and that he'd probably just need a tooth pulled and a load of antibiotics would have him good as new. The vet pulled me aside after examining him, and gave me the bad news: he had fairly advanced cancer running along the one entire side of his mouth, and it was extending down into his throat. The vet said he could give me meds for the coming pain, but it would just be counting days. I couldn't bear to have him suffer. It crushed me that I thought I'd be bringing him home alive and on the mend, and instead ended up burying him near the treeline on the back of my lot.
Miss the little shit, he loved to sit next to me and watch TV.
Sept was 3 yrs I put Rocco down . .. He's still around as Enzo is his son !!! . . .

You're right.
I changed it.
Sad to say but I have a dog graveyard at my farm. It's under a big, beautiful tree in a field with a small statue of St. Francis looking over the graves. Also sad to say but I have pre-dug a few of those graves knowing that I would have to put down my dog in the very near future. It was always winter when I did it and I was afraid that when the day came to put them down it would be freezing and icy and I didn't want to dig their grave in freezing rain or snow.
I'd be proud to be buried next to them all. [beer] I'll let you all know how that goes. [popcorn]
I miss my mooch :'( 6 months alone is an eternity when she was by my side for 15 years

Give him back?
He lives with the ex and she was on vacation. I had him for 2 weeks.
Oh that would break my heart to see!!!
That is sad news. :(
I am definitely hugging my dog as much as I can. I came home to an empty house a couple of weeks ago and a note on the table saying the wife had left (together for 28 yrs.) and taken the dog too. She wouldn't tell me where she and Bode (dog) were staying. I was pretty much out of my mind and felt like I was going to have a heart attack.
We are talking things out and doing a shared custody thing right now.
So hug your pet because you never know what the future will bring.
Still miss my beautiful Shay. It's been 7 years and I still shed a tear or two when I think if her.
