Happened a couple of days ago.  Just found out.

Here's a link for helping his family (Katie just had their second child a couple of months ago) but it gives details of what happened.

Elias (Toolfan) was one of a kind.   :'(

For a guy with heart problems, he sure had a big one.  [clap]

Friend to many of us in the Northwest, Portland OR area.  [beer]

Team Oregon Instructor (MSF equivalent.)  [Dolph]

Raced his SS1000 so well they changed the rules on him.  ;D

Rode to DitR on his DRz, took his trials bike to a ADRider meetup in his BMW sidehack.  [bow_down]

He will be missed.

That was quite the journey for him and Mother that year, IIRC.

That was one of many

a decade of memories with an unbelievable cast of characters

and

as far as I can recall

no jail time

but

not for a lack of trying

Bump for a tragic circumstance and a really good cause.

The funeral was last Sunday

There were some really great stories told

Dropping F-bombs in a clearly G rated crowd was fantastic

( not me, big E's boss )

Thank you to all who donated to help out Kate and the kids

It is really appreciated

Elias has friendships that span more than a decade from here, ADV, and various other endeavors

It was comforting to know that Kate has so much support

For some reason the words from a 'Tale of Two Cities' come to mind through all this.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way

The reason, I think, is the support shown for this cause.

They haven't reached their 'new' goal. I'd like to see it surpassed.

Keep in mind nothing anyone can do will change anything except the length of time a mother can spend with her children before having to face the harsh realities of economics.

I think that's a lot.

Still time to help out if you haven't already.

Of all the causes we've chipped in towards I think this one is the most important.

Let's give this a kickstart. [thumbsup]

Elias stood next to me at my wedding and Kate was so pregnant she went into labor the next day

I stood at the back of the room at his funeral and Jess was so pregnant she went into labor the next day

It doesn't mean anything but I can't stop thinking that it should

I know it's only a vain attempt of mine to mitigate my own grief

the same way vomiting my emotions here is the same vain attempt to make the pain go away

but

Elias shouldn't have died

a man possessed of that caliber of character with a beautiful wife and 2 sweet little babes shouldn't be dead

there is no reason for it

I once brought back the same piece of shit junkie from cold blue gutter death twice in the same day

but

Elias doesn't get the same make the beast with two backsing courtesy...that is just make the beast with two backsed up

I can't get angry enough to make this any better

nor sad enough, accepting enough, or read enough victor frankl

its just make the beast with two backsed up

but as angry as I may be and as sad as I am, as much as my chest is tight and my breath is hitched

I can't cry over the guy

I can't find a single moment in the last decade where his goofy ass cherub grin doesn't make me smile

I want to cry

to somehow ease the tension

I think about Kate's face as I walked into that funeral and I want to sob like a lost bear cub

Then I start thinking about some adventure we went on or some project that we more than likely make the beast with two backsed up and then fixed with epoxy and duct tape and I am make the beast with two backsing grinning and chuckling 20 min later

who does that to a guy?

So to you Elias I say thank you for all the blue highway adventures, drunken philosophy at dawn, and that one time everyone pooled their money to get my Jeep out of hock...we will all do our best to help out Kate and the babes and enjoy our memories of you

[drink]

Another bump.

I only met Elias once.  When he and Mother had an epic adventure to Ouray.

He was a pretty cool cat.
