Just got back into town after a few days and saw this on the web. Ugh... hate to hear this. Always a fan of MS and had lots of respect for his talent. Just an awesome driver. [thumbsup] [bow_down] And people say riding a motorcycle is dangerous. [roll] This could happen to you falling of a ladder putting up Christmas lights. Another reason I don't ski. I wish MS the best.

Yikes! That sounds a lot more serious than the report I read this morning, which said he was conscious.

Post by: Speeddog on December 29, 2013, 09:13:19 PM
Sounds like he went into the podunk hospital conscious, but then winked out, whereupon they took him to the real hospital and brought in his big-gun doctor to drill a vent hole in his head.

Depends how long he's in a coma, but generally it's a very bad situation.

Any news on MS this morning?

"We can say that his condition is life-threatening," Jean-Francois Payen, head anesthetician at the CHU hospital in the eastern French city of Grenoble, told a news conference

"For the moment we cannot say what Michael Schumacher's future is," he added. "We are working round the clock - we are trying to win time."

Shit. >:( That's not good to hear. I wish him the best. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Way too early in his life to lose one of the greatest drivers ever to something like that. Tragic at best. :P

Press briefing, just now, told they had done another procedure to relieve cranial pressure - with good results. Also, that the scanning shows some other smaller bleedings.

Best wishes

In cases of traumatic brain injury, a hemicraniotomy is often indicated.
This is where they remove 1/2 of the skull to give the brain a place
To swell.  You can imagine that this exposes the patient to a pretty
Significant risk of infection.

(CNN) -- Michael Schumacher's manager has revealed that a journalist tried to sneak into the French hospital room where the Formula One superstar is being treated Tuesday.

His manager Sabine Kehm confirmed to CNN that a member of the media had attempted to gain access to the room at the University Hospital Center of Grenoble disguised as a priest.

That's just sick. Stick a scalpel in the dude's ass and throw him out the door. Damn media vultures. Some journalists are like the paparazzi with pens and writing pad instead of a camera. >:(

I hope they prosecute aggressively and don't let the journo hide behind some "freedom of press" nonsense. Then again, France has much more stringent privacy laws and therefore press restrictions than we do, fastwin.

It is astounding to me just how quickly ones life can be changed.  Who would thought a F1 driver would be nearly killed in a 12mph skiing accident, while wearing a helmet!

It is things like this that remind me to live each day to it's fullest.  Which I am going to go do right now, time for a quick ride.

"Michael Schumacher's lucky charm has been found at the scene of his tragic skiing accident.

Rescuers reportedly found the African bracelet buried in the snow, German newspaper Bild reports. Superstitious Schumacher wore it at all times, even during Formula One races.

After the lucky charm was discovered missing at the hospital, his rescuers offered to scour the site of his accident to recover it."

From the manager:

Das Statement von Sabine Kehm

„Michael is making progress on his way. He shows moments of consciousness and awakening. We are on his side during his long and difficult fight, together with the team of the hospital in Grenoble, and wekeep remaining confident.
We would like to thank you all for the continuous sympathies. At the same time we again ask for understanding that we do not intend to disclose details. This is necessary to protect the privacy of Michael and his family, and to enable the medical team to work in full calmness.“

I'm afraid you're right, this will be the last press release.
Until the one announcing he's died from pneumonia or a UTI or the like.

I'm sure he's gotten the best care available on earth.

Over the years I've become more cynical, and have lowered my expectations and thus am disappointed less frequently.
