Title: m6oo mods
Post by: Gibbo on February 05, 2014, 05:08:37 PM
G'day all,
I was wondering if anyone had tried to fit an aftermarket dash to the early monsters ? I want to put a tacho on so I know how fast she is spinning(obviously :P) and was interested as to how you wire the tacho up,also my bike has the standard gearing so I was wanting to go from a 43 tooth rear sprocket to a 38-40,any ideas? suggestions?

My old M900 had no tach. I tapped in to the ignitor box.

Are you sure you want to go in that direction with the gearing? Most want more oomph and add teeth to the rear sprocket.

I think she has plenty of poke around town, the bike just seems under geared so would like slightly longer legs as I do alot of highway miles.

I have a 98 M600.
I picked up a DP speedo and tacho in  a carbon dash a while ago form the states.
replaced the MPH speedo with my KPH one.
came with a wiring harness that piggy backed straight into the coil
Really easy.
Keep an eye on ebay for the dash as they do come up.
I got a pair of new showa forks from ebay italy can't remember exactly how much but less than $400 landed in OZ if I remember correctly.
Exact fit cils.
Stage 2 dynojet kit
Airbox horns removed.
Vaccum fuel tap replaced with manual one
just for starters

I have the Trailtech Vapor on my 01 M600.  Speedo get calculated from a magnet on the front wheel, tach ties into the ignition coil.  Some pictures:

Ducpainter, can you elaborate on how to tap into the igniter box? Where do you sort out the male and female connectors? (Assuming your way like it on the Ducati Suite site.

Thanks.

I removed some insulation and soldered the tach wires to the ignitor harness wires close to the connector, then taped up the area.

I never looked at the Ducati Suite site.

Thanks all, that has cleared up the issue of the speedo, seems pretty easy really   :D  Has anyone got any experience with re-gearing  these things ?  also I was looking at putting pod filters on and re-jetting the carbies ,she has high mount Termies fitted.

According to gearingcommander.com the 600 never came with a 43 tooth rear.

What year is your bike?

15/43 is std.  has it got a 14 front?  shortening the gearing will certainly hurt it.

Brad,
I just looked at the front sprocket and it is indeed a 14 tooth so it appears that the previous owner shortened the gearing(probably because he did most of his riding in the city) so I will replace it with a 15 tooth as I live in a regional area and do a lot of highway riding.
As regards the speedo/tacho I am looking at the Trailtech or an all in one (Danmoto sp2?),but there are allot about.

Personally, I would get a tachometer with main lighted indicators . . .

MotoGadget is nice but $$$

AutoMeter, has a specialized moto line . . . regular ones will damage due to vibration

or, the fleabay store for older Monsters or SS models . . .:
