Two days after the television appearance, on 11 February 1964, the Beatles' first US concert took place, at Washington Coliseum, a sports arena in Washington, D.C.[32] The concert was attended by eight thousand fans. The Beatles performed on a central stage in the arena, with the audience on all sides, and there were regular pauses to enable the band to turn their equipment around and perform facing in another direction.[32] The concert generated intense excitement.[32] The following day, the Beatles performed a second concert, in Carnegie Hall, New York, which was attended by two thousand fans.[32] The concert was again well received.[32] Following the Carnegie Hall concert, the Beatles flew to Miami Beach and on Sunday 16 February 1964 made their second television appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, which this time was broadcast live from the Napoleon Ballroom of the Deauville Hotel in Miami Beach. As it had done on 9 February, the television broadcast attracted around 70 million viewers.[32] On 22 February 1964, the Beatles returned to the UK. Arriving at Heathrow airport at 7 am, they were met by an estimated ten thousand fans.[32]
August 1964[edit]
I heard on the radio the other day the Beatles concert at the Gator Bowl in '64 was the first time the venue was integrated. The boys threatened to cancel if that wasn't the case and the management folded under the pressure. [thumbsup]
they came to celebrate a special birth in America
I've heard of those guys. They were supposed to be pretty good. ;)
Good year for 50th anniversaries. My buddies and I just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the release of Dr. Strangelove (1-29-64)... one of my all time fav movies. And the Ford Mustang's debut is hitting the big Five-O on April 17th. All good stuff. [thumbsup] [beer]
1964 was a good year [cheeky]
A half century ago :-\
Time sure does fly when you're having fun, eh ;D

One of my all time faves too, if I had a dollar for every time I've watched it, I reckon I'd have $79.37.

- $2.25
Kind of wild to imagine being one of the 8,000 people there that night.
Sadly, only 50,000 of them are still alive today.

What? You mean to say you weren't part of the audience that day?

Nay, I was but a wee lad then.
I'd hope my parents would have told me about such an adventure.
But it would explain my shoddy hearing, what with all the girlie screaming.
The first time I saw saw the Beatles was at the Liverpool Empire, don't remember the date but they where way down the list of groups performing on stage that Sunday night, Top of the bill... ??? Chuck Berry...
In later visits to the Empire Sunday night shows Chuck Berry was a back up artist to the bill topping Beatles... [clap]
How times changed... [thumbsup]
