Title: Need paint advice
Post by: DucatiGirl87 on February 24, 2014, 05:59:30 PM
I have a 2000 Monster 900ie. A few years ago we were having problems with the gas cap seal and consequently my paint is now bubbling around the gas cap. Have any of you ever sent your bikes in to get painted are there any places you would recommend? I need somebody who knows what their doing because even the Ducati dealership we brought the bike to in Wisconsin couldn't get the seal to fit right. I can't buy a new OEM tank anymore so I want to keep her gorgeous and in amazing shape. She's a pretty yellow and I would like to keep her that way.

ducatigirl87 what are your mirrors like for rear vision? They look awesome. Are they rizoma circuit 851's.

they are rizoma im not exactly sure what "type" I can ask my husband when he gets home he bought them. Because they are so small sometimes its a little more difficult to see but I just double check over my shoulder. I wouldn't trade them for anything else. They look amazing! The majority of after market parts on my bike are Rizoma.

I have that same helmet. The graphic is sick!  Are you running pinlock on it?

Yeah Ducpainter is the man here.

I know WI is a lot farther from NH than I am in NY, so take this however you want.  Thoughts on using Ducpainter:

I used DP to repair the (not uncommon) hinge plate gas leak problem on my '01 steel tank.  Sent it up to him from NYC to NH and I think I paid maybe $40-50 Fedex plus maybe $8 packing materials.  Packed it myself because I don't trust UPS/FedEx/Mailboxes Etc.  Was in the area a few weeks later and picked it up in person.  The hardest part of it all was getting the gas out of the tank before I sent it.  That part was a PITA.

DP did a great job on the repair and, while I didn't get a paint job myself, I did see some projects he was working on.  Very nice.  Plus, you'd be supporting a DMFer.  I have a dream of getting my frame painted black which will realistically never happen because I don't care enough about aesthetics to do it---would rather spend the money on more track days---but if I DID, I'd go to DP even though he isn't local.  My $0.02.

Oh, and much love to the yellow Duc.  They are under appreciated.

You just missed a NOS yellow tank sell for $450 on eBay. That would be considerably less than a professional paint job and they come up fairly often.

I agree on keeping the yellow and if you want paint, Ducpainter is certainly worth talking to.

I'm a little biased on the yellow myself - my yellow one:
