I was wondering what is involved in removing the crankcase vent box under the seat of a Monster 620. It looks like two hoses are attached to it.
I would leave it as is, but am looking to put a 1198 shock and if it doesn't fit I may have to remove that box. Do people put pods on the engine or what is the solution?

Keep the hose from the crank-case to the underseat oil catch box. Put a little breather filter (K&N) on the end of it. Trace the other hose back to the air box. Remove the hose and plug the hole in the air box. You can get plastic hole plugs at Ace Hardware. You can also get a 6"x12" piece of aluminum there to make a new underseat tray to mount your voltage regulator/rectifier. Good time to "flip" the R/R too. Get it more out in the air to aid with cooling.

Alternatively you can mount a small K&N style filter directly the the crankcase breather. I used something like this from eBay for like $5:

Not a great idea if you like to wheelie but it looks very trick. I use a DP crankcase breather with a reed valve and never had a leak.
+1 on keeping the breather box and fitting a little K&N breather on it. That way you keep the intake charge clean and still have the breather box volume and oil separation function.
Sponsors Motowheels have them. It's a Corse Dynamics breather kit iirc. You can also try sponsors CCW and Monsterparts although I couldn't find it in their on line catalogues.

If you mount it at the end of the box doesn't it hit the back of the tank when trying to close it?
Honestly that kit from Motowheels seems overpriced. ..those caps are about a buck or 2 total and the filter shouldn't be more than 5-6 bucks unless you have to have the K&N.
The K&N filter is probably more like 2/3rds the price of the little filters you get in an auto accessories store down here. I like that the Corse Dynamics kit has a range of bungs, the clamp, etc to cover a number of models. The spares go in the bung container coz you never know. ;D The price ain't too bad over here with our economy of scale. I put an equivalent auto type filter on a 900ss and I still had to provide the clamp and airbox bung. Price was nearly $20 all up and I had to spend time looking for it at auto stores burning fuel and time.
It's worth it to throw a kit like that in with a larger order now and then to have it there.
I see the deals and range of stuff you get up there and weep. A teleporter would save me a lot of money and we would have had a beer together by now. ;D

Mine just touches the tank with the filter in one position, but not when adjusted a little. Other bikes don't as long as you adjust the position and they have more clearance, so I guess my tank has been dinged once in a past life. I once saw a 98 M900S with a size or so smaller K&N filter and it had plenty of room. I had a Superlight once that the PO had used some foam filter cable tied on the breather box outlet.
