The MotoGP is being braodcast on WRAL at 1:00 and the 250 on Speed at 4:00.  That's different!  Where's a good place in Raleigh?

I'll record both just in case though.

So Speed TV isn't showing the GP at all?  That's weird.  I knew the next several races are gonna be broadcast by different networks here in the US but I thought that would be in addition to the Speed broadcast, not instead of.

At any rate, anywhere in the area is fine with me.  It'd just be cool not to watch the race by myself for once. [drink]

I might be in.

I'll keep an eye out to see where you guys decide to watch it.

If you feel like watching it in Chapel Hill, I know a place with $2 Dos Equis drafts on Sundays.   [thumbsup]

Chapel Hill is OK with me.  I have no idea who in the area shows or is willing to show the race so I can't really suggest anything.

The Flying Burrito.  It went out of business about a year ago but has recently been remodeled and reopened.  Located in the shopping center at Hillsborough and Airport.

It wouldn't be in HD. I read something just a couple of days ago that Dorna is trying to upgrade all the equipment so they can start filming in HD in 2010.  Apparently it's pretty complicated since that means all the onboard cameras have to be HD as well.  I can see that as a problem because you're talking about a quantum jump in bandwidth needed for the camera-to-pit link.

The amount of cameras it takes to following bikes or cars around a track, and the mounted camera makes switching to HD a very difficult and expensive task..
Will be exciting if they actually get that all figured out.   :)

Would love to get together for a GP race sometime...  thought the next one is showing pretty late at night...
let me know if anyone has a plan?

Ditto!  I've always watched races by myself, it'd be nice to have some folks around to shout at the screen with.  :P

Its much more fun to be rowdy when there are others that share it.
I have had my monster owner/neighbor over for the last few, but my tv is crap.

Would be awesome if there was a place around to watch..  or, if people want to hang at my place thats cool too...  I have beer(that has to count for something!  [drink]

Don't know about any places around to watch but I'd be happy to host a few folks.  I've got a fully-stocked beer fridge and a 53" TV... :D

I can probably get to Woody's on Sunday for this weeks race.

The bad thing from here on out is football season will occupy every publicly viewable plasma display where food and beer are served.

I can almost guarantee you that the bar in the restaurant I work at won't have a crowd for football.

Two plasma screens and an LCD.

And $2 Dos Equis drafts on Sundays.

Well, looks like there won't be any get-togothers for the Misano GP since lack-of-speed channel isn't showing it until 11pm.  I suppose anyone interested could meet up and watch some AMA racing from Road Atlanta, but it just doesn't seem like the same thing.

At any rate, I'd definitely be amenable to going to Woody's or wherever (Sparky: I can meet ya and lead you to Woody's if you wish, I'm in the Cary/Morrisville area near the intersection of Davis and Morrisville-Carpender/Aviation Pkwy).  I sure would love to get to at least one get-together before the remainder of the season is done.

Well, I guess I can't make it to that, and I'll be at the race in Indy. Maybe I'll make it for Japan or Australia. I'm also in Morrisville off of Davis.

Lucky you.  I had every intention of going to Indy this year but things just didn't work out for it to be possible.  We'll definitely try to gather a crowd for one of the later races.

For those (like me) who aren't going to be lucky enough to see the Indy GP in person, I'm SURE that race will be shown at a decent time...

I doubt I'll wait until 11pm to watch the Misano race this weekend.  I'll probably snag a copy of the Eurosport feed and watch it earlier in the day instead.  We'll definitely work out an Indy viewing party though!

2008 is the last season Eurosport will be carrying MotoGP coverage.  That's too bad, because Julian, Toby, and Randy are the best English-speaking MotoGP announcers on the planet by a LONG way.  I hope that, whatever happens, those three guys are kept together.  If Dorna was smart they'd can the guys who do the announcing on the "official" Dorna feed (the one that's heard on SpeedTV) and hire the Eurosport guys instead.

And yet, they get 17+ hours of television coverage a week devoted to chronicling the soap opera that apparently ensues when 45 guys get in 80's technology cars with 60's technology engines and bang into one another around a circular track. Kind of sad.

I'm with y'all on that one.  I've never figured the attraction of NASCAR.  500 miles of cars driving in a circle? I'd rather watch my grass grow.  I have this conversation with my brother all the time.  He's even a motorcyclist (well, that may be going a bit far.  He rides a Hardley Ableson) but he doesn't watch motorcycle racing and is an absolute NASCAR freak. I just don't understand.

At least NASCAR will be around next year, unlike AMA racing, so I'll give 'em some credit there.

Just finished watching Misano qualifying.  Stoner took the boots to 'em once again.  I thought he was gonna end up in 3rd and then, with just over a minute to left in the session: BOOM! He clicks the Desmosedici into 7th gear (or whatever the hell he does) and destroyed the field by 6 tenths of a second.  Rossi managed to make up a tenth on him in his last-ditch flyer, but Stoner still won Pole by half a second.  Good stuff.

Got back from Indy Monday night.  Fun weekend in spite of the rain.  Sunday afternoon in turn 1 stands watching the race bikes and Ike go around was something to see!

Wild racing, what there was.  125 was great, 250 postponed then cancelled, MotoGP shortened from 28 to 20 laps.  Positively wild!  I have a few pictures and a couple of short vids, if any are interested.  Some of he best racing was actually the 125 novice class / support races.  KIDS 13 and up from AMA and FIM supported series on identical KTM bikes.

Was there anything broadcast on TV?  I recorded some wierd program cause of the race delay.  I haven't found anything listed for Indy on any TV schedule.

NBC was supposed to show the GP but we got treated to an hour of paid programming for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital instead.  They never did show the race as far as I can discern.  Speed was supposed to broadcast the 250 race but since it was canceled they showed the 250 race from the previous round. They'll probably air the 125 race in a week or two.

Back to the original subject, if anyone wants to get together to watch the next round I'd definitely be interested.

No, not at all.  I made plans a year ago to meet up with friends from MI.  They drove their motorhome w/garage, aka "The Unit" down to Indy.  They picked up my wife and I at the airport Wed night and we were 'camping' in lot 2 next to the track.  Can you keep a secret?  I rode a 2007 HD Springer for 3 days!  Pretty cool, actually, and easy to wheel around in the crowded conditions.  Being at the track for all the practice and qualifying sessions was great.  We got to see the bikes ridden in all kinds of weather, 'cept snow of course!

I heard that a row of Ducs got blown over on Sunday.  Anyone confirm that?

Cool. I was just afraid I'd stood right next to you and your wife and didn't even recognize you. I think you signed up for US Desmo right before me as well.

Nah.  Our bikes were fine.  We were parked two rows back.  [thumbsup]

But I got a very sick feeling when we walked up and saw those bikes on the ground.  I did not remember right off where we had parked.  [puke]

Coincidental that there was a Hyper and red framed 900 monster involved in the accident.

I circled our bikes in this shot.  Just an excuse to get some stage time.  :P

I'm in Japan.

I was disappointed by the weather in Indy, so I flew over here this weekend.   [thumbsup]
