Pretty impressed if this is the real deal.
looks heavy
what's with the piece, and the tacticool?

Hollywood set. Electric HD now that's rich.
they leak volts
Also the designer of the first clip on tool bag for electric motors.
With Edward Scissorhands riding it, nonetheless ;D
Is that a Beverly Hills helmet? ;D
Ditch that rear fender and it's not bad.
If you want to have a rear fender then one like that, that conforms tightly to the contour of the wheel, is not bad. At first glance you don't notice it is there, not bad given how large it actually is.
Can you make a electric bike annoyingly loud, and slow?

Easily. Just add a Harley owner.
Bike looks decent, but if their electric motor performs anything like the other ones on the market so far, I'd want another brake disc up front.
Something tells me Erik Buell will spew coffee all over his monitor when he sees this.
I have to agree with the article, that looks far too production-ready for a one-off.....
Actually, I'd love that thing with their new Street 750 engine in it.
It will be a poor seller unless they add a PA system with vroom vroom noises so the attention starved boys can still pull into a restaurant in a quiet little seaside town and still shake the windows letting anyone that did not see them pull in that "They" have arrived.
Had to do it. Sorry [cheeky]

Totally an insult to gay people drawing any comparison with that particular Hardley ilk, but that's still hilarious

I love the South Park clip. A few years ago I was up in Big Bear when I accidentally found myself in the middle of some giant HD gathering. The first thing that I thought was "Wow if you took away the motorcycles parked on the streets and left all the people walking around it could have easily been a gay "bear" gathering........
Used to love walking around Bartels when I had my Buell in for something and watch all the tough doctors and lawyers trying out their bad ass looks in the mirrors. Just freaking killed me.
Oh well enough bashing and back to the topic. HD making an electric? Guess so.... (added that after reading second post below), I am still in disbelief.
Looks like it's been confirmed... details tomorrow:

I never expected to see a bike like this from HD, and I expected even less to actually like it. But I do! Here are some specs. The range of 50 or so miles is laughably unreasonable but I'm hoping that's something that'll be bumped up by the time it enters production.

I'm impressed by how slim they got it but that is probably why it has such a short range. And I'm digging that sort of Confederate cycles look this EV has. A bit iffy on the headlight though, I'd still prefer the lights to be round vs the vertical strip. The turn signals are also a bit off to me.
Overall though, kudos to HD... great to see a very traditional brand taking the leap to capture a new audience. Should be a kick in the butt to the industry to start pushing out more EV bikes and that's only a good thing in the end for us consumers.
I'd give it an A. Good job HD if you actually make it.
I like it. [thumbsup]

Harley made something destined to fail? Heresy! ;D
Now where did I park my Buell?
actually...it's nice to see them trying something truely different from their norm.
I'll give them one free advertising idea.
take an old picture of horses tied up to a hitching post outside a saloon, then juxtapose that with a couple bikes plugged into ev charging posts outside a bar.
They just need to be fitted with an aftermarket shake charger.

Everybody's entitled to an opinion, but I say good for HD. Here's a company
We all bag on for making the same old crap ... I'm pleased to see them exploring
What will undoubtedly be the direction of the future. Maybe with their
Capital resources and volume capability they can make a real go of it.

Agreed! still gonna bag on them though. ;D
I kind of hope this tour thing they are doing for this bike comes near me, I'd like to take one for a spin....
My understanding is that the HD E-bike was actually made my Mission Motorcycles.
This is far from a completed project. They basically created a bike that is being tested by hundreds of people from multiple cities. They want input from everyone that drives it on how to improve it. They them will be moving the project forward. Its still a prototype. I think it has promise.
If it is wired as poorly as my Buell was I would only test ride it in a Faraday Cage suit ;D

I wish there were more cited sources in that article. Using, "If I read material provided by vehicle industry battery people," as a source isn't exactly credible.
Can anyone tell me what direction that article was trying to take? I'm not sure the author knew. He mentions major car manufacturers choosing to pursue hybrids instead of full electric to meet the future EPA standards, and that if they thought they could feasibly do it all electric they would. But then he goes on to mention that it's sensible for Harley to have prototyped an electric bike. Maybe I'm missing the point of his article but I believe I've learned nothing from it.
My opinion, is that battery technology won't grow by the same percentage every year, he mentions 5 or 8%. I believe it will start growing exponentially, and will be efficient enough for most users sooner than we think. I think there is a huge number of people that ride say less than 100 miles at a time - leave their garage, ride, come back to their garage. I think that creates a huge market for people interested in electric. Those people don't need charging stations across the country, they don't need a HUGE range, and they don't need fast recharge times. Same applies for cars.
Back in 2008 I read a stat that the first computer at MIT back in the 60's filled an entire room and had less computing power than an iPhone did in '08. AND that the computing power available in an iPhone in '08, would be shrunk down to the size of a blood cell by 2025. I know that computer chips don't directly correlate to vehicle batteries, but my point is that amazing things have happened and are happening with inventing and manufacturing things much more complicated than batteries.
Ramblings over. ;D
I primarily want one of these just to ride to work, 10 miles each way.
:)
I'll keep the other motos for less predictable excursions.

Exactly. I'm in the same camp you are.
I would hope that someone out there is investing in a more efficient battery compared to ion. These batteries were designed for electronics, i.e. laptops and cell phones, not for vehicles. The battery draining is more even through electronics and it still fluctuates depending on your use. I can just imagine the battery drain if you have a electric sport bike on a track. You'll be able to do just one session before spending 5 hours recharging. I would hope that if they will invest in electric vehicles, they also invest in more advance battery tech.
Nano tubes should Increase batteries capicity more than anything has in hundreds of years. We are close but not there yet. It can also be woven into any shape. So the frame etc can be part of the battery made from nano structure fibers.

What do nano tubes do for a battery?
