...Actually, I went to buy myself some whiskey but the store is in Brooklyn and had a wide selection of craft liquors. I figured DIMBY is coming up and Nate likes vodka, so I should find a nice vodka to bring along. A trendy looking mid-30s woman approached me to ask if I'd like some help. This was conversation:
Woman: Can I help you?
Me: Yes. I'm looking to get a bottle of vodka for a guy that likes vodka. But I don't drink vodka and know nothing about vodka.
Do you know what kind he normally drinks?
Sorry, I actually don't.
Does he like fruitier or grittier?
I don't know.
What's the occasion?
It's a motorcycle get together. He hosts a bunch of motorcycle enthusiasts in his yard every year.
[Perks up] Oh! Good. Um, scooters or motorcycles?
Huh? Motorcycles.
So motorcycles. What's he into? What's his style?
Huh?
[Pauses.] Is he younger or [I think she was gonna say "old" but caught herself]---
---He's older.
Is he from Scandinavia?
No. He’s just an American.
Is he an artist?
[Bewildered]
Like Richard Prince?
[Chuckle] He is kinda like Richard Prince. Look, he’s just a regular guy.
What does he do?
He lives in New Hampshire.
I’m trying to get a senseâ€"like what's his style?
Style?? I don’t know. Look, he just likes vodka. I’m sure his favorite is some recognizable brand, but I don’t know which. I figure I’d get something different and, hopefully, good.
At this point she gave up and just directed me to one or two of her favorites. Sorry for calling you "just a regular guy", Nate. But what the hell does your "style" have to do with your taste in vodka?!? I love that Richard Prince is a reference point for recommending vodka! [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
just get him russian standard, he'll be fine :)
if it's in a bottle, and the bottle is full.... any choice is a good choice.
and for you...try Bowens whisky. made by Wade and Jojo Bowen, both have owned monsters.

This would have been more entertaining if I knew who Richard Prince was. :-\

:-X There's some heinous stuff out there.
'Course he could always use it as paint stripper.
Luksusowa should be a safe bet. That's 'tater squeezins instead of coming from grains. Smooth stuff too.

Yeah. Only by pure coincidence I knew who he was. But I find it funny that the woman not only assumed I knew who he was but also knew enough about him to say whether Nate was like him or not. I have nothing about me that says "artist" or "art lover" or anything. My assumption is that she was/is an artist and assumed everyone had taken Art History Since 1945 in college.
Anyway, from Richard Prince's wikipedia page:
QuotePrince was first interested in the art of the American abstract expressionist Jackson Pollock. "I was very attracted to the idea of someone who was by themselves, fairly antisocial, kind of a loner...
I didn't know this until I got home and googled him. But yeah, kinda like Nate. ;)
Oh, and I ended up getting some vodka from a Brooklyn distillery. I'm sure it will fit his "style". ;D

Your response should have been "just give me what ever Sam Elliott drinks."

The internet has zero examples of Sam Elliott drinking vodka.....which matches my assumption that it doesn't happen [cheeky]
I think he is way more of a whiskey, or tequila type. [shot]
