For those of you unfamiliar with it, the Anonymous List was started by the BMWOA, and is a very useful tool. It was originally printed in a handy little guidebook, that came with your membership each year.
It's a listing, by state, of all the BMW motorcycle owners that have assistance available to other traveling Beemers.
They list contact info (sometimes with GPS coordinates), if they have a spare room, yard for camping in, garage space, tools, hot meal, shower, if they have a truck/trailer, etc.
It's an amazing network to have available if you have a situation while on the road.
I think this would be an incredible asset to have here!
The main thing to remember is that this list serves as an "Oh sh*t! What do I do now?" safety net, not a list to plan your next couch surfing adventure. If you're planning a long haul, you can see who is in the general area of your route, and drop them a line. See if they will be around when you are passing through...just give them a heads up, in case you need their assistance... and if you have a problem, now you have a safe place to turn to.
With Moto GP @ Laguna, and now Indy, I know there will be a ton of us on the roads. Something like this would make us all ride a bit easier knowing other Ducatistas are near by if we need them.
Anyone interested in putting something like this together? Maybe include it with a DMF paid membership type of thing?
i like this idea. sadly not close to Laguna but a day's ride, couple hours from Sears, local to Berzerkeley. would help someone stranded locally or needing support at an E-Room visit, family help in worst case, etc.
we have a futon in "the library" and i have a good boss who would let vacation hours be used for urgent personal use.
Sounds like a good idea.
[thumbsup]
This is a good idea and one used by several clubs apparently. I belong to Lotus Owners Ltd. and we have a list of people that provide technical assistance, garage, tools, willing to travel to give assistance, etc. We could add have truck and willing to travel to pick up a stranded member. I'd be willing to add my contact info to it.
Awesome idea [thumbsup] I'd definitely help out some folks!
Sounds great!
Count me in. [thumbsup]
Couple weeks ago I coulda used something along those lines. I lucky knew a guy in the area who rented Jeeps and let me use his garage. Good idea. [thumbsup]
I'm in, if Canadians are invited to this party too. ;) We're not all evil.
I remember in the 80s when my Dad first started riding BMW bikes. He received his contacts book and was really impressed with the organization of the club. It'd be good to see something like that available for DMF members too.
[thumbsup]
Good Idea! I'm in, but how do you maintaint he anon part?
I'm in too. Assuming you will take an expat Canuck living in Socal.
I'm in! Texas Represent!
I'll throw my name in the pot too.
I have a spare room, a truck, and access to a large shop.
and I like drinking [drink] so you can call me if there aren't mechanical problems too
count me in.

So it's a printed book, with a regional directory?
I guess you could print of the thread bp posted, but that doesn't include contact info.

we would have to set up some secure way of giving out contact info...I'm not going to throw my phone number and directions to my house out on the internet. Maybe a thread that only members can access or something
It's not a bad idea (as long as it's not a big deal to maintain for our flounders).
When I was a member of the Magna Riders Association (yeah..I still got the T-shirt too... ;) ..) they also had something like this. Participation was strictly optional. Our names were listed behind a password protected gateway. We all had unique user ID's so it might take some fiddling around to adapt their format to our more open forum.
I'm posting a link to that site just so anybody who is trying to get their head around it can see how another forum went about doing it. Click on "Join Support List" and "Emergency Support List".

Canadians are allowed, but only if they send me fresh Tim Horton's on a weekly basis. [coffee] [coffee] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Sounds like a terrific idea. Hope it can be worked out.

Haven't you heard? Tim Hortons has already started invading the USA. There are Tim's shops in something like 8 states now, more planned in the near future. So I guess we Canadians
are kinda taking over, but in a good way. ;D

Their donuts really suck.
Don't know about the coffee though.
Hey, Admin type people... can we get something started on this? Maybe a dedicated sticky page?
