Has anyone that uses gp shift pattern have their calf muscle hurt and
feel tight? I've been shifting that way for about ten years.
Just wondering if there is any sort of bio-medical reason for
my calf muscle to feel tight. I only ride about sixty to eighty
miles per week

Sounds like the voice of experience to me.
I have no leg pain from GP shift.
I think his shifter is adjusted too high.
No pain here either! I used to only setup my track/race bikes as GP shift, but found that I was akward with STD shift in the street, so I've set up all my bikes to GP shift. As with anything, it's now a normal reflex...until I ride someone else's bike :o
That's what it was. Shifter too high, dropped it down a bit now it's all good
