Ok. Second post since like 2010. Had a crash. Guy barely had insurance. My S4R was tore to hell. Tore up my leg. Tore up my finances. I've been bike-less every since.
I'm broke, don't know when or even if. But I'm missing riding very very bad. Been teaching a friend some safety stuff and it's killing me not riding.
Sob story over.
If and when I could afford a bike again. I'd like something with power/sex appeal of my S4R, but more comfortable to ride all day / take on trips. I'm 6'3". 250lbs. The leaning forward all the time kinda took the joy out Of all day riding for me. What would y'all recommend I look at as far as used bikes?
What are used 07 S4R's going for? How many miles is too many miles?
Thanks
Dang!
Now to the point, you say the leaning forward was sort of a deal breaker, why don't you look into a MTS1100S or a ST2/3/4/4S, still Ducati, all of them fun to ride. If you dwell a lot inthe city, then the MTS1100S would make more sense to me.
I will also mention the HM1100S or EVO due to the hi end components but, you mention "all day riding" . . .
Those ate my $.02
Leaning forward can also be solved with a different seat and handlebar risers. My Corbin seat took almost all the "forced" forward leaning out of my riding position.
Diavel? I test rode one, and found it to have relatively upright ergos. Our local Ducati dealer has a used one for $10k.
It seems like it would be all day comfortable.
I vote for the used Multistrada.
Even In fantasy land where I can afford a bike 5k would probably be my top end for now. What are multistrada's going for?
I road a Harley for years before missing sport bikes and getting my S4R. I LOVED the speed/power of the S4R, but I really missed how much fun it was to ride the Harley all day. I may have fixed what was really the problem with the lean (I essentially had a sever muscle cramp from being a musician for years that was killing my hands. I thought it was carpel tunnel, I've mostly fixed it). But it still doesn't seem like the most comfortable bike to ride on trips
I live in Los Angeles now
$4900, just inside your budget:

$3500, but smaller (620) engine. Owner addresses your issue perfectly, as if he/she were reading this thread:
QuoteThe riding position is upright enough to make long rides comfortable but sporty enough to take turns with however much aggressiveness you can muster.

And one more 620 @ $4200 for good measure.

Personally, I'd shell out the $4900 (maybe negotiate) for the 1100. Good looking bike that guy has. But regardless, I think I've made my point here today. ;D

+1. Looks like it was loved and well cared for. Term is and a DS motor = [Dolph]
If you want to stick with a Monster, some risers and maybe even some ATV/Dirt bars may be helpful. I've got that on my M750 and it is super comfy all day, but can still tear up the tight stuff when you want to ride more aggressively. My Moose bars were $20.

Not to mention that it looks like it is already equipped to hold paniers. That 1000 would be sweet for So.Cal.
Those Multistradas are great bikes but watch out for expanding fuel tanks. This is a major problem for these bikes because the tank will swell and warp so when you take it off you won't be able to get it back on. Coating them is a real pregnant dog too because of the shape.
