Title: Bolt kit for M900?
Post by: showerfan on August 11, 2014, 08:50:07 PM
Anybody have a good source for bolt kits?

I need to replace all the bolts i've stripped [bang] on my 99 m900 -- mostly around the handlebars/clip-ons.

i've tried searching the expensive bolt sites, but they only have kits for newer monsters...

Desmo Parts

http://www.desmoparts.com/ (http://www.desmoparts.com/)

have bike specific kits that come in bags labeled with the size and # of what they contain, and indication of section of bike they are for

Bolt kits are a rip off. Just buy various packs of M6 SS cap screws from eBay, or if you have an aversion to buying from China pay Mcmaster-Carr a little extra to buy them from China for you. 20-30 M6X20 and 20 or so each of M6X12 and 16 should do you whole bike and set you back about $10. If you need the M8 pinch bolts around your front end those are $1.50 per ten pack on the Bay.

I had stripped three bolts getting my alternator cover off.  I was very pleased to find my local Home Depot had metric capscrews.  Sixty cents vs $3 at dealer(per bolt).

If you are stripping the hex in the screw head, get a hammer driver impact tool and it will never happen again.
