Title: Forged Alloy Wheels
Post by: Scoober1103 on August 15, 2014, 02:31:21 AM
Evening all,

I have some questions about a few of the forged alloy wheels available for the 796/1100 SSS monsters:

I'm looking at changing my cast Enkei rims to a set of forged alloy and I noticed in a post somewhere here and after a little googlage the Hypermotard 1100 Evo sp has Marchesini forged rims. Would the front be a direct fit on an 1100 monster? Does anyone know the weight difference between the cast 10 spoke and forged?

Has anyone fitted a set of Carrozzeria rims to their 1100? They list a 6" rear and wondering if there are any clearance issues? Who is a reputable distributor? Again any idea on weight differences?

Lastly the wheels I have been trying to get a hold of are the OZ Racing Piega as they are by all accounts the lightest and in my opinion the best looking of the bunch. Anyone know a place where I can get a set of these as it is my preferred choice?

Cheers,

Scott.

(ps, my budget wont allow for Carbon and not interested in Magnesium)

I bought Oz Piegas from Motowheels last winter and they have been great.  My thread on that has some info on wheels weights, sprockets, installation, etc.:

Hope that is helpful.

Thanks, yep read all those but I guess I'm looking for specific answers to my questions. Carrozzeria are the cheapest but also the heaviest and the 6" rear has me intrigued followed by Oz which are the lightest and a little more expensive but difficult to find and forged Marchesini off a hypermotard are a little more expensive again but curious if they are a direct fit and lastly where to buy all three?

Cheers.

Jeff at Monsterparts sells Carrozzeria. Got mine from him, he's a good dude.

Forged Marchesini wheels from a Hyper ARE a direct fit for your m1100 [thumbsup]

When I bought my m1100 I tried to get the dealer to do wheels swapsies with hyper coz I liked the black forged items better. They wouldn't be in it. But they do indeed directly swap. As do 848 wheels.

Well as I couldn't get hold of a set of Oz Piega I ended up ordering a set of Marchesini Kompe forged alloys direct from Italy so just a we bit excited about that!

I have also received delivery of Ti bolts and other bits to swap out on the front end at the same time so will give some weight comparisons when the wheels arrive! And Pics of course!

Thanks for all your help DMFers!

Very happy, they also come with light weight spacers for the front! Now to decide what to shoe them with?

For those interested.....weights with no tyres or rotors but bearings are installed in the front.

Front in kg,

Will weigh the cast Enkei rims minus the rotors and tyres when they come off for comparison!

[drool] Thanks, now I have a hardon at work.

Those look gorgeous.  Looking forward to some pics once you have them shod and mounted on the bike.  Also, curious what the weight of the stock wheels are for comparison.

Thanks Spike and SDRider. They are beautiful and looking forward to fitting them once my tyre choice is made.

Hey SDRider what rims are on your Evo?

have heard and read that, either Michelin Power Pilot CT2 and/or Pirelli Diablo Rosso have the best effect on this bike . . . I am biased towards Michelin and Dunlop . . .

Pilot pure are possibly the lightest tyre around from what I hear. Any good?

A mate had pilot pures.......wait or was it powers.......sh!t????

Anyhoo every Michelin I have ridden me no likey, its the shape I don't like. The last set of Dunlops (Q2s) went off before the tread wore out!  ??? and I kept getting cold fractures across the tyre which I have never experienced before. Q3s look very similer to michelin in shape.

Narrowed it down to either another set of Conti Sport Attack 2s when the front becomes available or Metzler M5 Interacts. Pirelli are in the $600 range which is insane but both the Conti and Metzler are low $400's fitted so yeah....oh the metzler are in stock at my local!

Editx3: I had a power pure rear in the shed bout half worn and it is 5.7kg. How does that rate?

I'm running a set of Pilot Power 3s now, and the dual compound rocks! They are really sticky in the twisties and the center is wearing very slowly. I have 5k miles on them and there is still 3mm of tread depth in the middle.

I've been pretty happy with the Diablo Rosso IIs.  On my 3rd set right now.

There you go I thought the Evos had Marchis!

Michelin and Pirelli are too rich for my blood and I don't like the shape and the feel they give!

I was more talking weights with that Michelin in the shed!

You just spent $2k on wheels and you're complaining that the most important piece of safety equipment on your bike, the tires, are too expensive?   [clap] ;D

;D Yep!

My point is there are as good tyres for a lot less that I prefer! I have ridden quite a few different types of both and there not my cup of tea. And here in OZ they retail for over $600 a set at present with the Euro being so strong! Where as Dunlop, Conti and Metzler are $400 ish and They give the feel and grip I like!

It's a personal flaw of mine!  ;)

I love hearing people groan from across an ocean.  Wait for it.................

I pay just under $260.00 US for a set of Rosso 2 tires.......  Plus another $40.00 to get them on the bike as I am to lazy to mount and balance them myself.

I mount and balance myself, butt 40 bucks sounds like a good deal for the effort expended!

Nah i'm not groaning that's just the way it is! When you think about it your paying US$300 fitted which isn't that much different to the AUD$410 for Metzler fitted here. OK your fitting Pirellis but I don't want them anyway! I can import tyres and do it myself and save a couple of bucks but your stuffed if there is a recall or warranty issues.

I wouldn't live anywhere else! It's a pretty small price to pay for living in paradise!  [thumbsup]

Also was hoping to get my silver 80's skins on before I took the silver wheels off for some nice photos but as there is still a paypal dispute going on I figure best not to fit them in case I need to send them back to the arse hat I bought em off!
