Hi all, got a question with hopefully an answers. I want to delete the swing arm hoop on my 01 750/900 Monster and was wondering if anyone has tried it. I don't want to buy a 02+ swing arm, pivot and tie rod. I have two ideas:
1. Make a custom tie rod from the stock pivot to the center cross bar just behind the bottom shock mount and make a attachment point.
2. Make a mount under the seat that doesn't pivot for the top of the shock to mount, making it a non adjustable system and would look similar to the SS type rear suspension.
I would much rather do option two but I would like some input on concerns or if it's been done before. I have the means and skills, I work at a machine shop and also Stradafab.
Thanks
ktm run a linkless system on some bikes. you'll just need to get a shock that works with the travel length you end up with and damping requirements.
changing the pushrod mounting point (option 1) will also require a change in shock set up as it will change the linkage ratio.
I can not see exacttly what your option 2 would look like, but if you want to mkae it look like a SS type suspension, why not try to ducplicte the SS set-up as closely as possible? The SS´s work very well ....

You work at Stradafab?? Lucky!!! I would clean the shop shitter for free just in return for occasional tutelage and some titanium widgets here and there. What are Randy's thoughts on this suspension project?
I think I will modify the area under the tank and make a mounting bracket for the top of the shock and possibly move the mount on the bottom up a little bit on the swingarm. I think I was misleading on the supersport rear suspension, I was just using it as a reference for a link less suspension.
Buck Naked, we don't have a shitter in the shop ;D. He thinks it's possible so that gives me some confidence, we have all ready converted a Sport Classic to accept a swing arm from a S4R.
This shouldn't be to bad ??? And Buck Naked, sometimes your lucky enough to be the son of a fabricator and Ducati fan :D
Don't quite understand option 1 from your description.
I know option two has been done before in two ways (at least.) But both used SS swingarms.
One I believe was Duck-Stew who added a frame member above the vertical cylinder head for the upper shock mount. I think it required some funny business with the bottom of the tank for clearance as well.
The other I think dubluv is doing where the shock mounts to the vertical head itself on the valve cover with a bunch of special engineering and theoretical number crunching.
