Title: Question about exactfit coils
Post by: wataboy on September 05, 2014, 11:00:53 AM
Hi folks,

I'm installing some exactfit coils on my '98 M900 and was wondering which way ya'll recommend positioning the coils, plug wire up and tab connectors down or vice-versa? Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks,

I've seen 'em done plug wire up, tabs down.

Dunno if the stock wire harness would reach if you flipped them over.

Thanks 'dog,

I got them installed with the plugs wires up. It just looked like the wires stuck up too high to clear the gas tank but maybe the tank just mashes them down, idk. I hope the wires are screwed in enough on both ends. It was hard to tell if they were bottoming out or just too tight to turn any further. Anyway, everything's back together now so we'll see how it goes...

I always thought a custom light weight bracket that made the plug wires exit left from horizlntal coils, one above the other shotgun style, would sell like hot cakes.
I ran mine with wires up and they rubbed the tank so I put corrugated insulation tube over that part.
Great coils that do exactly fit on.

I put mine flipped w/ the leads facing down, no more tank clearance issues. The stock way, the tank was mashing them and I had to cut them shorter 2x for a better connection.

Good to know the ignition wiring reached ok. I'll remember that.

Mine get mashed too, thanks for reminding me to try flipping em' when the time comes.

Fyi I have a custom sheet metal battery box & pod filters on my 98 m900, so you may still need to drill & lower thecoil bracket for the Rxactfit coils if you're running the stock airbox holder.
