B and I are looking at these for our second vehicle.
We don't need/want a full size truck.
We would prefer a Tacoma but the prices/mileage are just too high for our budget.
There seems to be a pretty good selection of used Colorado's out there with lower mileage.
Any red flags we should know about?
I've seen a little bit of talk about hard starting in the cold, but those seem to be isolate cases.
Opinions??
it's a GM vehicle......huge red flag.
I hold bailout grudges.
;)
I think I would look for a Ford Ranger, Mazda B whatever (close relative) or Nissan Frontier.
My parents had the Canyon that they towed behind their RV. They drove it over every mountain pass from CO to MT. They never had problems but he had the 5.3 engine stuffed in that GMC. I would NOT get the 5 banger they sold for a little while, only the 5.3 engine. Down side is you're going to have full size gas mileage in a mid size truck but then again the Toyota's have horrible mileage for a "mini" version of the full size too.
No Nissan Frontier cross shopping? They should be cheaper than the tacos and more reliable than the GMs(the design hasn't changed in about 10yrs and is still going....). I only have antenodal evidence on the GM twins, one family friend had multiple problems in a very short time. Also older tacos have had a full recall for the frame rotting in half and not all of them got it replaced. No brand is perfect.
We haven't looked at Frontiers, mostly due to the fact neither B nor I like the way Nissan's (in general) ride and drive.
But neither of us have driven the Frontier specifically.
Guess we probably should actually drive one before ruling them out.
My dad has the Canyon with a small V8, he loves it. Towed a car from Boston Mass to Rochester NY, no issues.
Says it's great in the snow too. [thumbsup]

Yep, and yep.
Personally, I haven't had great luck with GM vehicles. The best have been Fords and a lone VW.
