Title: Riding with No Mudguards
Post by: kakunaratata on September 20, 2014, 09:05:31 AM
Any unexpected cons to riding with no mudguards? I removed both the front and the back one today just for kicks and I kinda like the look. I'm in Texas so the roads aren't wet often and even when it does ride I usually take the truck.

I do city riding daily and short sprints on the highway every now and then.

Here's some photos.

I also don't like how the gauges look. To me it just breaks the smoothness of the top of the bike. So I think I'll prolly lower the headlight and put the gauge under the triple. But I'd have to compromise that with keeping the bars under the triple as well. I was planning on reinstalling those above to make the riding position a little less aggressive. Thoughts?

Extra road grime on your helmet/face and your shock.  Nothing a rider can't handle.

I've been running without the rear for about 6 months and the shock body isn't too bad, but the chain side would easily fling more grime if you aren't using a nofling or Teflon lube.

I've gotten hit in the face with rocks flying out from the front of my fender, I wouldn't leave that off.

+1. Ran without a front for a couple years, never again. It does look better than the OE fender but a chopped OE, DP, or X96/1100 fender looks even better still. Leave that to the bobber crowd imho.

I've had the rear hugger off for 10 years and made a little plastic shield to keep grime off the rear shock. I've seen pics where a few folks have covered the rear shock with a clear plastic water bottle, with top and bottom cut out, which didn't look too bad.

I ran without a front fender most of this summer, but recently picked up an aluminum, DP, short fender. Once I have it powder coated black I will throw it on.

I've been riding no front for several years (see my avatar). Since I tend not to ride in the rain, it's no big deal (tho riding on a couple humid roads has brought water right up onto my face).

I'm certain more road debris hits my engine, but I like the look without more than I dislike the dirt.

I like the lack of fenders but then mine were missing when I bought it,
yea those clusters bite, there are a couple of options available, do a site search as there have been several threads previously
I did the Danmoto swap
