I want to put a Cyclops Adventures LED bulb in my '02 M750S headlight bucket, but it requires a bit more space than the stock bulb. I'd have to cut a small bit out of the back of the metal bucket. So just in case I screw it all up I wanted to get a "back up" bucket.
I looked up the microfiche, and its a bit ambiguous. Part #723.1.003.1A (#4 in the fiche and called a Cap by Ducati) seems to point to the bucket, but it could also point to the aluminum ring that holds the whole headlight together. The Cap can be purchased from Ducati for $68, but people on eBay are selling extremely dented headlight buckets for $60. It would make sense to just get a new one from Ducati if that is the bucket, but I dont want to pay $68 for an aluminum ring I already have....
Can anyone shed light on this? And if anyone has a metal headlight bucket they have lying around, I'd be interested. (I dont need any other parts of the headlight.) Thank you!
#723.1.003.1A is just the metal bucket.
Keep us posted please!
I might have a modified metal bucket. If I can find it.
Sorry for the delay in revising this post!
I ended up calling my local Ducati shop to ask, and the parts guy said it was a bit ambiguous by the fiche, but that part number should be just the metal bucket.
I decided to plow ahead with my LED headlight idea and cut my existing bucket. If I screwed it up then I would worry about getting a replacement. The LED light bulb is about 3/8" longer than the stock bulb, and the fan is 2" so it requires an inch of space to either side. The side to side was not an issue, but the length was. It was just barely hitting the back of the bucket so you could not clamp it back together. My husband got out the dremel and carved a little hole in the back, and it just barely peeks out.
My headlight is awesome now. Great spread and much brighter than stock. [thumbsup]

72310031a would be the bucket, it does not refrence whether its a plastic or a metal bucket. but it lists fitment only for bikes with a metal bucket, so it should be correct.
68.99, readily available. Might be cheaper to just source one on ebay, especially if you are going to cut it up.
I did initially look on ebay but all I could find were extremely beat up buckets - and they wanted $60 or more for them! (At least when I was looking a few weeks ago.) Ducati sells 'em new for $69, but that made me suspicious about the part number being what I wanted. Maybe $60 was a deal? But nope, looks like ebay sellers are just nuts.
Cut mine up already, so Im not going to worry about a replacement.

I've already hacked out the back of the bucket I'm running now with an HID "H4" unit.
Perhaps I'll give one of these a go.
Did you get the "CIL-LEDMD"?

Here's the ADVRider thread on this product:

I've not read the whole 100+ pages.
But I'm confident that if they satisfy the ADVRider crew, they're good stuff.
My only issue with them.... no cutoff.

From reading multiple pages on the thread, SOME bikes react positively, but the beam pattern on many of the retrofits is a concern for me. It is certainly brighter though.
Thank you for posting that.
Yes, that is the one I got.
