Title: Pretty sweet jack to help with wheel installation
Post by: Monsterlover on January 07, 2015, 05:02:37 AM
I thought this was pretty cool and I want one. I change my own tires and holding the wheel in position while trying to get the axle started seems to be a huge pain in the ass for me. Sometimes I get it right away, other times not so much.

That is cool, but $150?  I'll stick to using one long and one short 2x4.

Yeah, I'm a little put off by the price.

I'm almost tempted to build my own.

That's how I do it when I get an uncooperative wheel.

But it's a lot easier with it up at waist level on a lift.

Pretty cool idea...but I change my wheels out a lot and the ol' foot under the wheel works just fine. I think it would take longer with the jack.

A bunch of years ago I picked up a surplus "labjack" which is basically a scissor type elevator with a hand dial for fine height adjustment.  Any chemistry lab will be loaded with these things.  Works awesome for wheel changes and other tasks where you need to fine-tune the height of a light load or need a small platform at a particular height.  Very useful repurposed tool to have around the garage.  Probably around $20.

You're the man!

Or woman since I don't know you. But anyway, eBay is riddled with these things. I asked a question about the height when fully collapsed. I think it was $30-40.

Sweet!

Sweet!

That's the problem with owning a girlie bike like a 695 - folks assume you got boobs.

Good call on checking the collapsed height.  I definitely use mine at the lower range (when lifted with a pitbull stand).  I just checked my collapsed height and it's a tad over 2.5".

You won't be disappointed with a labjack for wheel changes!
