This was a great thing to read first thing in the morning.
Bayliss is returning to racing in the AMA Pro Grand National flat tract series.

Cool...
I always wondered what ever happened to Steve (Motor Mouth)McLaughlin.
[thumbsup]
Neato
I would love to go see him at the Indy Mile.
[thumbsup]
Was fun watching him (and others) at a moto expo event he did here. Rhe flat track was good fun.
Be good for Ducati and good for flat track (and building flat track racing down under too). Maybe over time Ducati could bring out their own equivalent of the XR750 [drool]. Imagine a customer racer and road going version. The hipsters would go nuts. They could use the scrambler as a platform for the road bike and the Evo bikes as a platform for the racer.

WOO! So I am an old rich guy! Wonder why my wife keeps telling me I can't buy things if I am rich? ???
And now riding a Duc for the first SBK round at PI:
Bayliss To Fill In For The Injured Davide Giugliano
In a stunning turn of events that began with the unfortunate (expected) 90 day recovery period of Davide Giugliano who was injured at the Phillip Island SBK test on Monday, Troy Bayliss has been called on to fill in and start the season on the Aruba.it â€" Ducati Superbike Team
He hasn’t ridden the Panigale since May of 2014 but it’s Phillip Island and it’s Troy so it’s crazy but it makes perfect sense and as a long time Ducati Ambassador the legions of Ducati fans that will be rooting for this is immeasurable. His desire to continue racing is well known so when it looked like there was a chance that the seat was open Troy offered and the team said yes.
Troy Bayliss (Aruba.it Racing â€" Ducati Superbike Team #21)
“I want to start by saying that I really feel for Davide and that it’s a real shame for his season to be starting in this way. The desire to be able to return to the track and see the home crowd and the Ducatisti has always been strong, ever since I last raced and then also Phillip Island, one of my favourite tracks, is celebrating its 25th anniversary of World Superbikes. This gave me the idea to compete as a wildcard and work with the Ducati Superbike technicians once again. I know it’s going to be a very difficult weekend, also because it’s a while since I’ve ridden the Superbike but I do know the track well and so hope to get back into it after a few laps. I’ll try to enjoy myself and will of course be doing my best to score a good result and put on a good show for the public.â€
Davide Giugliano (Aruba.it Racing â€" Ducati Superbike Team #34)
“My aim now is to do all I can to recover as quickly as possible. I will return to Italy as soon as possible to start my rehabilitation. I’m proud to know that it will be Troy to substitute for me this weekend. He’s a great champion and I’ve always admired him. I hope he gets on well with the set-up that my team and I have worked on in recent months.â€
It would be very nice to see him smoke the field like he did in his final GP race. [evil]
That may be a bit much to hope for. Which isn't - for even one second - going to stop me from hoping for it. ;D

Now I really have to find a place to watch moto racing. [Dolph]
Awsome!! [clap]
I was thinking of going to Thailand for the next round. If Troys going to sub there as well, that may be the clincher for me to go...
Who's coming?

This is very cool..
Hopefully he can adapt quickly to the current bike in practice...
It's worth echoing Bayliss' comment about just how much this sucks for Giugliano - after years in the wilderness, Ducati looks like it's about to put a bike on the WSBK grid that can once again contend for the sharp end of the race, and despite posting some attention-getting laps in pre-season, he's going to have to watch from the sidelines. As giddy as I am to see Bayliss back out there, I was also looking forward to seeing if Giugliano could put together a competitive season.
A mate told me that Bayliss was 2/10ths fastest in practice so far.
Bayliss ended the session 18th, 2.3 sec behind Chaz Davies on the other Panini.
Reportedly he only ran 3 laps.
3.2 and 0.8 sec back from fastest time from Lowes on the GSXR.
Not bad for ye olde farte who's had no running on a modern SBK in who knows how long.
Only 3 laps. Hmmm.
Glad the Gixxer is doing well.
Bayliss had some harsh words for whomever decided the "one bike" idea was a good thing.
There was a technical issue that limited him to one flying lap.... so I'd wager in the second practice he'll move a bit further up the grid.
Only on cable here. [bang]
18th...
so not a massive amount of progress or laps.
Another 15 laps..
His bike was leaking oil apparently, hence only 3 laps.
More info on Bayliss' engine issue:

I'm having a bit of trouble decoding the info on how this effects Giugliano's engine allotment depending on who rides his bike in upcoming races.

The way I read it is if Bayliss stays on and rides more than 2 rounds and then stays with the team on a third bike then Giugliano starts over. Any other set of circumstances the engines count toward that bike.

That's kinda what I got from it, but I didn't get confident in that interpretation.
It seems odd they'd even be worrying about that.
If he's off for 3 months, Giugliano will miss the first 5 races, so his championship hopes are finished.
How are more engines going to make a difference when he's spotted the field that many points?
I'm not under the impression they can gain much by shortening the fuses on more engines.
I agree.
I wonder he's going today. I hope things improve for tomorrow.
I read he was up to 12th
Indeed.
FP4, Bayliss has more than halved the margin to Davies, now 1.1 sec, versus 2.3 in FP1.
He sits 12th out of 24, just 1.5 sec off the fastest time of FP4.
Really very impressive, as I'm sure he's been given stern 'suggestions' from every corner of the box to not fall off.

If they just wanted someone that was gonna do parade laps...
they shouldn't have hired Troy. ;)
This race should be interesting.
I'm gonna start a thread for the race to avoid spoilers in this one.

There is even some talk of a Misano wild card, which would see the three-time Ducati WSBK champion face-off with two-time Aprilia WSBK Champion Max Biaggi.I'd like to see this.
That would be a cracker
7th on the grid in Thailand! [thumbsup]
I'll have to get up un-Sunday-like to watch, but I will [bow_down]
Wsbk is no longer the ducati cup it once was, it looks like a long year ahead, the panagalie just doesn't have the pace
I think this is not happening anymore.
Troy has hung them up again:

Too bad. He's always fun to watch.
I respect his decision though.
