One of the coolest Japanese bikes I've seen in the road in person was the Suzuki RG500 2-stroke.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought the same thing.  The Japanese Two-strokes (classics street-bikes).. I had a Yamaha RZ500.. Wish I still did...

I changed to Italian because I wanted a Monster.  Got GSXR I totaled was fast but had no personality.

every once in a while I try to convince myself buying/building a custom ruckus would be a good idea.  then I realize I'm freaking stupid and I stick with what I have.

I was looking at Tony Rutter pics. He also raced this . All I can find so far.

I think I saw maybe 2 in showrooms & 1 in the wild. Too much squareness for my taste & just a 550 to boot. Both are kinda weird to put that much effort into, but like they say, if it make you hard...

A mate has one.
He fitted Moriwaki heads and big bore kit, hot cams, bigger carbs and an Over full race exhaust. Doubled the hp to 10 or something. ;D. We would laugh about the 100 % hp increase!
It was hilarious. He's a lanky 6'3" and would ride it down bike paths to get to my place looking like a giraffe sitting on a picket fence.

I think JD Hord tuned one on a dyno.  [laugh]

I had an '85 FJ 1100 for a few years. I did a few mods to it and man, when it started pulling at around 4500 - 5000 rpm, it was pulling HARD.  So much fun.
