Looking for some firsthand experience with these devices, to use with my iPad.
Are you looking to do a NAS for videos...etc?

Not so much as to access all my shit (classes, training schedules, course outlines etc) I don't have a computer right now and need to look stuff up on my iPad.
How much space you need and what kind of redundancy?

Minimal, don't need TB space by any means. I saw one called, My Passport. ?
No FHE, but that would work.
Where are the files now?
This might be an alternative... http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive/iStick/ (http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive/iStick/)

Everything is on an external Drive. I had to give my computer back to Uncle Sugar.

Without some sort of computer access transferring files from the external drive to any other device will be difficult.
Ipads are not really friendly for that.

The rig you saw will work. The other option will hold all your stuff and can't be hacked unless you lose it...
for about 40 bucks less.
This civilian gig or military work?
I ask because the DoD takes encryption pretty seriously...i.e. drives used to store anything externally (not talking secret or top level stuff...just info in general that could contain PII or PHI) *have* to be FIPS compliant.

That's a classic case of "Why didn't I think of that?" This is a timely thread since I have the same issue with transferring files to an iPad. I also like the My Passport drive since it has a built in SD card slot. But no FHE with either one.
