Title: Question for the EZ Pass users
Post by: Monsterlover on June 29, 2015, 08:50:41 AM
I was just checking my account online and notice only one of my vehicles is setup on the website and there's a spot to add other vehicles.

What's the point.

Up until now I've been moving my EZ Pass to whatever vehicle I happen to be on the highway with.

Is there anything wrong with that or do I really need to start adding other vehicle/plate's to the website.

My understanding is this:

If the pass doesn't work, they can look at camera footage and apply the fee to your EZ Pass account based on license plate.  However, if the license plate is not associated with an EZ Pass account, then it is a ticket for skipping a toll booth.

My moto EZ Pass had problems connecting with sensors and so I've run through a considerable amount of tolls in my time.  If my moto license plate wasn't connected to my EZ Pass account, I imagine I'd be getting a ton of pricey tickets from the State in the mail.

This.

Same thing in California with the FastTrak system

So adding plates to the system doesn't mean any more cost, just more plates tied to the account if the transponder fails?

That is my understanding, but I defer to confirmation from someone that actually has more than one plate attached to their account.  (I only have my duc).

Rules differ from state to state.

Correct for NYS.

yeah the transponders don't work everytime. Most of the time but not everytime. If you have the plate listed: no ticket.

I have several cars and the Bike on The Fas Trak account. Some times I don't always have the transponder, but I know I won't be getting a ticket if the Lic plate is on the account. And if the camera doesn't get the plate...I guess I don't get billed for the toll crossing.

Adding Plates to the account costs nothing but a few minutes of your time.

But if you go through with two bikes at once while pretending you're a car, the bike not on the account gets a ticket for the cost of the toll (in mass, anyway).

That only happens at the toll booth in La Honda.
