Im thinking about getting rid of my 696 for the hypermotard. I would like some opinions on this befor i do something that could possibly be stupid. And if i were to what would be a good price to get the hypermotard for out the door? not the S
Thank you
The dealer by me is selling them for around $12k
May I ask why? Don't get me wrong, I've been on the hyper and loved it...but the monster does it for me.
I was offered a HM at low cost, but I like the ergos of the M696 better.
It really depends on what kind of riding you want to do. If you want to show off, pull wheelies and produce general mayhem then get the HM.
If you want lower insurance rates, reasonably better MPG and don't want the 'beak' then keep the 696.
The Hyper is the Ducati I would buy if I were buying a bike right now. I'd buy one over a 1098, 858, Monster, SportClassic, anything but a 1098R or a D16RR (which I can't afford anyhow).
If the HyperMotard had come along a year earlier, i would have kept my 620, and added the Hyper to my collection. I guess part of it for me is that i dont like the new monster..........
now, if i were looking for a superbike........the 848 seems like an awsome machine

Man you are going to loose your shirt no matter how good of a price you get on the HM. You just got the 696, it's a brand new model that is not really being discounted too much so you probablly paid list price or close to it. Then you have set up fees, taxes, registration, 600 mile service, etc. . . And in a few months you take a hit on selling the bike and going through the expense of another new bike. That is insane!!! Unless you have that much money or you are that young that living at home with your parents means all your money is your money, I'd say keep the 696 and give it a chance or you are going to take a huge hit financially.
Seems a little crazy, how long have you had the 696? I would think waiting might be a good idea for all the reasons already mentioned above. The HM looks like a fun bike, but for anything other than Holiganism I would keep the monster.
I rode a 1100 Hypermotard 63 miles yesterday. It was the Dealer's Demo. I was having my S4Rs serviced and the owner let me take it out.
First let me say that there was nothing about the bike that appealed to me asthetically. I did like the riding position since I am very tall.
The bike did have a sporty sound but didn't seem to have much power. I'm used to either a S4Rs, !098 R or K1200S.
It did have the worst seat I have ever set on ...hard as a rock, like sitting on a spli rail fence rail.
I didn't like the suspension. It didn't seem to turn in very well . I suppose the suspension could be set up better but my S4Rs and the R were so much easier to ride right out of the crate ( they do have Ohlins Suspensions).
The Motard is just to basic and uncomfortable for me to warm up to. It's more like a toy than a motorcycle to me. Just my opinion.
I'm with the seems a little crazy to sell a brand new bike crowd.
I was at a bike nite a few weeks ago andwas talking to a guy who had traded his 749 for his Hypermoto. He said it was the worst decision he had made. He lost money on his 749, said going over 70mph on the freeway is unrealistic, uncomfortable to ride, expensive. He said he did the swap because all thr hype and wish he would have kept his 749. I may get flamed, but imo if I was going to get a hypermoto it would be the superduke.
Um... What type of riding do you want to do? That should make all the difference in what of motorcycle you're buying. If you plan to commute, don't get the HM. If you want to wheelie, get the HM. [laugh]
As others said, depending on what type of riding you're getting it for, you can tour to some extent on a monster, something you'll NEVER be able to do on the Hyper.
AND it does seem crazy to go from a monster to a hyper if it's your only bike.
Chris
really can't imagine trading monster for a hypermotard...
in fact I can't imagine trading a monster for any other type of bike - for too many reasons to list here, but should be obvious to all, it is the best Ducati model, period.

He said a 696 and it's no "Monster". They may have slapped the old name on it but just sit on one. It's a nice bike, but it ain't a Monster. [bang]
Now i ask you, would the SS have not been an SS after they changed in the 90s. Can't wait til they come back!
The NEW Monster is just that ... NEW, and the OLD Monster.. well now is a classic.
Love the 696 for what it is and will be (M1098?) and the S2 for what it is and was.
But they both are Monsters, just of different colors.
And either way, both are better than the HM unless you want to be a Hooligan.

The rumored naked 1098 is
not supposed to be a Monster, but an entirely new bike. [clap]
oh yeah didn't notice that last part.... is the 696 still a monster? well technically yeah I guess...
for the record my comments referred to pre-2008 monsters
