Title: "Outlaw" drag racing
Post by: Dirty Duc on October 19, 2015, 07:09:15 PM
So I was stuck in a foreign country over the weekend, and happened on this dragway thing.  Like on that TV show Street Outlaws.  It was cool until the "official" racing started, and then I got tired of listening to the loudspeaker whine until mothermake the beast with two backsers showed up in staging 30 minutes late.

Pics are stuck on my phone, which doesn't connect to this laptop... and I didn't take pictures of cars, just engines.

And WTF with the no-timers?  I get you don't want to get the IHRA all over you, but it was not really a track built to IHRA standards.

Yeah, it was like that... but only in one of those freeway lanes.  that's right, side by side, heads up, no-time, in half the width, none of this "small" tire shit, with regular road guardrail for "safety."

We call that 'shit for brains' racing.  :D

Right?

There were some fast cars and trucks there, but the "house rules" sign said "Nobody under 16 can drive anything with an engine, and faster than 3.99 must wear a helmet."

That show you posted looks like an 1/8 course to me... kind of like the one I saw on Saturday.  But what do I know... those aren't even long enough to get started on the short course.

I grew up going to 'V' street in Washington DC, as far back as 68. Shit got real down there.

That was 1/4. You can easily tell by the times.

The only video I took.  The truck that I followed is reportedly ~1100hp out of a 292 inline 6 with a big make the beast with two backsin turbo... He's about the same speed as the "5.80" index that ran ~120-125 at the lights.

The biggest problem is drag racing is the equivalent of methadone.  The salt is the true horse.

4 feet from an exploding "outlaw" drag truck doesn't move the soul like 4 miles from a 400+ pass by one of the big boys.

I spent hours concocting reasons to go racing in that scene... and the only reason to and not to is no-time.

This will move more than your soul in less than 4sec.  [evil]

I am young by your reckoning, but TF hasn't done it since I left Pomona.

Who's this "they"? At least last year we had World of Speed.

that's why I have been gratuitously living through other venues.

Bonneville was cancelled this year. Oh and WTF does the flats have to do with 'Outlaw' drag racing?!  :D

Bonneville's the only formal racing I do... I have a disease. [evil]

But I haven't had my fix of fastiness this year. ;)

Thanks for the only metaphorical salt... if it was real salt, you'd be helping the program... :P
