Title: Moto shipper needed
Post by: pipeliner1978 on July 16, 2008, 03:05:55 PM
Anybody know of a good "safe" moto shipper that won't rape my wallet?

I occasionally see references on ebay motors ads. I can't think of any names off hand so I'm no help right now. Sometimes the seller may have sold several bikes and they have steered the buyers to a particular shipper and had good luck with them. I've seen them recommend shippers in their comments. I'll keep an eye open next time I'm wasting time on ebay. [thumbsup] Maybe Jeff at AMS knows. Twenty bucks says someone somewhere has shipped him their bike to be worked on.

There was a guy in OKC that was in the MC shipping business, but I don't think he does it anymore.

I keep hearing good things about HaulBikes.com. Personally I don't consider a few hundred bucks being raped when it's done right and there's a good bit of insurance on it to boot.

Tommy,

Give Tony a call. He has shipped lots of aircraft kits without so much as a scratch. Main business is aircraft kits but I know he has shipped cars before.

Check this link out. http://www.vansairforce.net/Graphics/PartainTruckingCo.htm

Try uship.com.
List how much you want to pay and people will bid for your business.  Ive shipped 2 bikes and an Escalade with them and it worked out very well.

with the exception of shipping stock exhausts, I'm a man of my word.  BUT! the lowest rate was from a diif company and it was 6 bills, which I believe is twice a few hundred.  But i tell you what, I'll buy you a beer and lie to you about shipping the stock stuff next time I see ya [thumbsup]

That's what I call love, your wife will go pick up your new bike for you in less time than the damn shippers will deliver it to your door.

Maybe you should just fly out and ride that beast back to Dallas  [thumbsup]

It would be cruel if it hadn't been three weeks, but I'm sure it has.
It feels like three weeks... at least.
Probably four of five...
Certainly not two.
Nor less.

Couldn't have been just a week.

Meh, my ride up to Lake Lewisville wasn't all that hot on Saturday.  Just 102 according to the weatherman.  I just ignored the air temp reading on the bike.  Although the other people at the party thought I was nuts for walking up to the boat in leather.

It's going to be a long week for Tommy.

We have had some family visitng...that I had never met before...it was very interesting!  Anyway, I did wash and wax all the bikes and make room for the new 1098.  We also received the key in the mail.  Oh well, still another five days or so, although I am hoping the bike will arrive by Thursday!  Anyway it's hot as F*** outside and the kids and I have been hitting the pool a lot!   [thumbsup] ;)

Whoa... I better qualify that statement before it gets out of control...

So my BIKE needs a good washing/waxing and Im way to lazy to do it myself, I am willing to pay greenbacks to get someone else to do it for me... Any takers! I might even buy a beer or 3.

Bike has arrived!  There's a couple nicks in the paint (which we expected), and it's very dirty, but still looks hot as hell!  If anyone wants to come over tonight or tomorrow and look over the bike that would be great (we're riders not mechanics).  Any outside input or extraspecial knowledge on the subject would be appreciated!  On the first ride around the block Tommy realized the shifting is one up and five down, but other than that everything seems normal (well, actually, when he makes a tight turn his hand is smashed between the grips and the upper faring ???).  Anyway, there's finally some color in the garage now and that bike is badass!!!   [moto] [thumbsup]

1up/5down - GP shift, I use that and love it

The hand getting caught between the nose fairing and clip on is the norm on the 1098/848.  Congrats on the waiting an eternity to get the bike in! [thumbsup]

I've done my own maintenance and crashed/fixed-up my 1098 a couple of times...
I'd be happy to see what'cha got there.   [thumbsup]

The one-up five-down could just be a (intentionally) flipped linkage piece on the shifter,
or a different lever type.

The smashed hand thing could  be due to big hands or a tweaked steering stop.
Either way, there are adjustments that can be made.  I'll bring tools for that.   [thumbsup]

PM sent...

Just scootch your hands out to the end of the bar when your making a tight turn to prevent hand crush. It's a design feature, you get used to it.

Should be easy to flip the little shifter shaft attachment over and return it to standard shift pattern. Also probably adjust the shift rod linkage to get the peg position just right. I doubt you want different shift patterns mixed up in your collection.

Someone was questioning shipping on Ebay about a Duc going to "30 min north of Dallas"  I didn't recognize the name, but I saw it last night and here you are questioning me today..............

Anyway, I used www.idtransport.com $550.00 anywhere in their coverage area.  I paid $550.00 tax incl from Miami to my front door.
