So, with Toyota announcing that they are discontinuing the Scion brand and rebadging everything Toyota, does that mean they're going to call the FR-S the GT86?

I think they're calling all the Scions 86'd now.
Really doesn't matter, all three of them are the same. 8)

Well, yeah, we all knew that. But for some reason Toyota decided to release the GT86 as a Scion here...

Subie assembles the FR-S/86/BRZ and it does use their engine. Most of the design work and a majority of the other components are from Toyota. I believe that there is a second gen in the works. No convertible, however.
Good car for the money, if thats what you want. You see a heap of Toyotas, but Subies are rare. The Toyotas got discounted.. I've heard a supercharger kit is available.

That is true, yes, there is a SC kit for the whole model line and there is a Greedy Turbo kit for the Sub . . .

looks ok . . .
Only on a racetrack. It borders on looking ridiculous on the street with that bolt on wing and those oversized wheels.

The Toyobaru will still be called an FR-S here.

Ah, they changed their mind. Not that a name really matters. All three were the same car. ;)
This was the last quote I read until your link.
"The press release made no mention of the GT86 name the car is given in Europe however, so we asked Toyota USA what the rebranded car would be called. We were told that the “current plans†are to keep the FR-S badge, creating the ‘Toyota FR-S’."

Yeah, they can't make up their mind. Although I read that the Yote is gonna get the updates this year and the Subie next year. Not sure if that means just the body changes or if it includes the engine changes as well...
Yet they're bringing this to the NY Auto Show next week.

Anyhow, I really don't care much for the toyota . . . but, if I had the $$ I would buy this,
