Should be delivered Sat. (Quat D mid-pipe for my S2R1K.)
Original system never been off (except mufflers/s-pipes to bleed the rear brake).
Is there anything I should know before I start? Got lots of tools and Corona ready. Should I mess w/ exhaust sealer? New front nuts or studs?
Thanks !
J.P.
i've tried the copper exhaust gasket/sealant on a couple of my monsters; they had exhaust leaks at the clamped areas. it helped quite a bit...but i wouldn't worry about it too much if going to the quat D system...i wouldn't think you would have any issues.
i'd say you pretty much have everything you need with the corona. may want to grab a few dos equis, though. [beer]
How did it go?
Did you need anything else?
I am trying to decide if I should just go with the midpipe and stock cans or something else. Something else cheap.
JP, dunno if you've attempted this yet but just a couple of things....
- take your cans/ s-pipes off first. That may be a kind of "duh" suggestion, but it makes a big difference ;D
- just unbolt from the top of the udder/bottom of engine and wiggle. Should come right out
The thing I had to watch for was the gaskets that go from the head pipe to the udder pipe. my bike has 15k and those gaskets were absolutely shot and leaking exhaust which makes for hot legs on hot days as well as a bit o backfire on decel due to the modified back pressure.
Let us know how the quat-d system worked out.
I'm not sure how different the mid-pipes are for an S2R vs an S4R but expect to do some finagling to get the pipes to fit correctly. Be careful w/the front header bronze bolts (if you have them) as they tend to strip (very easily).
Here is my post (with pics) of my mid-pipes installed:
