Title: Mighty Mouse
Post by: koko64 on May 14, 2016, 10:44:47 PM
(http://i1024.photobucket.com/albums/y304/tonykokonis/IMG_6387%201_zpssfqjvi4q.jpg)

My second youngest is Boxing amateur Olympic style in the 52 kilo/105 lbs class. After 4 opponents pulling out on her she agreed to fight a unbeaten girl in the 62 kilo class giving away 10 kilos (22 lbs) in a high risk strategy to get some ring time. Although green she belted her opponent over three rounds and nearly knocked her out in the last.
Social media allows opponents to se how you are doing in training and MM mainly spars with men. MM has a big punch, is strong and lots of talent. All of her opponents who pulled out have never rescheduled much to her disappointment. This means she will continue to have to fight more experienced and higher ranked women to get ring time.
The kid can punch and has good hand speed, is tough, has good movement and footwork. She also has serious intent. [evil] She is being trained now by world class coaches who have spotted her. Her coaches say she is a miniature Mike Tyson.
I am so proud of her and while I worry, I am more worried about the kids who ride motorcycles. I like the head gear and 16oz gloves. Having been a sparring partner I am aware how this game can chew you up and spit you out, so you can bet I'm protective.
She has another fight soon after another opponent withdrew from a scheduled fight this Friday.
I am in trouble with the Ex wife as both our kids are into fighting and motorcycles.  They are pretty, feminine, petite girls but with very strong spirit as I raised them.

Her mainly male gym buddies dubbed her Mighty Mouse.

Although giving away 22 lbs, height, reach and experience her opponent got a real shock in what she thought was mean't to be a tune up fight. The crowd went wild. I can tell you it's easier to be in there than watch your kid.

Even her jab is hard and beating her opponent to the punch. Not bad for a first fight.

Although she has great potential I am under no illusions. I need to be there for her losses and as well as her wins. More so for the losses.

Got a good left hook too. That's my girl.
Needs to work on her guard, but it was her first fight. She had a flu too but didn't tell anyone so as not to be withdrawn. Sparring with men has taught her to keep her rear hand up.

I've been waiting for this post. She's got some solid skills, and like I said, I don't want her punching on me.  [thumbsup] [clap] 8)

Happy with a win she was not expecting and was cool just to get ring time. Small but fierce.

Eh, spotting 10 kilo *and* some reach, yes?

A job well done, and the pics are stellar!

Yeah, you can see from the pics that her opponent is pretty strong looking, taller, heavier, longer reach. I was quite concerned because it was a set up and MM accepted the fight knowing that. The sport has no mercy, but her coach knew she was ready, and she knew she was ready. All the sparring with men and larger women prepared her. She backed herself knowing it was supposed to be an easy warm up for her opponent. She told me the sparring was so much harder than the fight. MM is very strong for her weight and has good reach for her height which helps. She also has a real killer instinct too, don't know where that came from.. There is a quiet confidence and self assuredness that people comment upon after meeting her.
Her homework from her coach is to watch Tyson fights when he was at his best and still with his original coach. Says something about her style.
She's a smart kid too, looking at her second degree at Melbourne University.

Mighty Mouse has another fight tomorrow against the No.2 in the state novice class. At least she is only giving away 2kg and not 10kg this time. This will be a signigicant test. Although I'm nervous, I worry less about her boxing than I do her riding motorcycles.

Mighty Mouse won the Novice & Intermediate State title today against a quality opponent.
While still recovering from Shingles and a respiratory infection.  MM fought a smart fight counter punching with good movement making her opponent miss and picking her off with nice counter punches. It was pretty classy for a novice. My kid looked pretty flat but adapted well and used her brains.
Not bad for her second fight. She missed a fight due to Shingles and missed four fights fue to opponents pulling out on her on the day (none have sought s rematch).
Novice class is three fights max and Intermediate is 11 fights max.

Cheers fellas.
While Im a proud dad and get a bit nervous, I dont worry too much as the sport is well controlled, the gloves are pillows and the head gear substantial. I'm more worried about my girls riding motorbikes. ;D

My kid looks about 12, but is 20. Her opponent was tough and very strong so it was a good test for MM. Some say MM looks like a certain character from GOT. [laugh]

More pics to come.

Gentleman on the right of the pic is Sam Visciglio, MM's world class trainer. He is semi retired and putting back into the sport to develop young talent. On the left is Fab, team mate and assistant. Sam has coached world champions, so I can assume he has become involved because he sees potential. Sam is also a greengrocer, and I hear he ensures his fighters get fresh vegetables [thumbsup].
Hope to have some action pics sent to me soon.

Just an update.
Mighty Mouse win/loss record now sits at 5-2. She has had at least 8 opponents cancel on fights, usually at very short notice. One loss was because she fought when very ill against an opponent she has previously defeated. Not hurt but so ill she was gassed half way through the first round. MM did not tell her coach or myself, because she was so frustrated with opponents pulling out of fights. Her opponent is the fittest competitor in the 54kg division, so she won't do that again ;D. Lesson learned. The other loss is inexplicable as she clearly won and by a margin greater than her latest win, not only out pointing her opponent, but landing some hurtful combinations including big uppercuts. The crowd knew and it was embarrassing. Both these opponents I have mentioned are charming young ladies in the 54kg class and good sports to boot. I sat next to one of MM's opponents at the fights recently and the young lady showed a lot of class. Women's boxing here has some good ambassadors.

MM is actually in the 51kg class, but fights above her weight to get fights; her last fight was her first in the 51kg class. It was a technical and clinical fight against an elusive opponent (another nice young lady and actual friend of my daughter). Her opponent's coach told me he instructed his fighter to avoid punching exchanges due to MM's power.

Jasmine's power is growing, as evidenced in a recent fight in the 54 class against an accomplished young woman who lost weight to meet her in the middle, (must have come down from the 57 or 60kg class). It looked like another David and Goliath confrontation (her opponent appeared very strong and fit and was a grown woman athlete), but MM hammered her opponent over three rounds with hard combinations. I honestly believe that the fight should have been stopped in the first round. If I was her opponent's dad I would have been furious; it was unnecessary punishment. My only explanation is that the ref let it go on due to her opponent being a mature, strong and larger athlete (wheras MM looks like a "skun rabbit") [laugh].

MM has recently been sparring fighters who are Pro or highly ranked at National and State level and holding her own.

I post this stuff because MM doesn't talk about it on Devilbook and keeps a low profile letting her fists do the talking. I'm not on Devilbook so I like to share here with my mates who are into fighting, keeping it between us.

Cheers.

Oh, and since you've been 'punching out of your weight class' since before she was born, she probably got that determination from you.  ;) :D
