Has anyone ever tried running an m900 without fuel pump,
I am modifying my tank, also adding fuel capacity, would like to eliminate fuel pump and see if gravity feed will do, moving fuel feed line closer to carbs, and elimination 2 drop sections in the tank. putting fuel tap right at bend in bottom, (now lowest point in tank)
thoughts? [coffee]
Oh, running 41mm FCR's
How far is the lowest part of the tank above the inlet on the carbs?
between 2 to 3", its 1/2" above vertical cylinder valve cover. Ive done it on other bike, just not one that requires 65lph
A good size ID outlet and hose with free flowing filter should give enough with a high outlet position. I'm unsure if gravity or a (low volume pump for that matter) will be be enough to meet the demands of angry repeated use of the accelerator pump. Sounds like it should work for your application. The stock pump is overkill for dtock carbs imo, but good for angry use of pumper carbs.
Just my 2 cents.
Keep in mind lean angle comes into play too. There was a member of the old board who ran his show quality Monster with no pump. His range was pretty tight, like think Harley peanut tank. A good option might be a small electric pump.

I'm looking to remove or relocate pump, pump is fine and would rather stick with pulse pump, no additional wires or draw. I intend on riding and pushing the sh!# out of this thing. No trailer queen here. was considering a 2 into 1 with the lean angle perspective, pump or not, no fuel on that side means no fuel available. The stock monster tank has a pickup tube on either side, needles to say those tubes as well as those side are gone.
Thanks all for your input, mulling over the deal. haven't finished fabing the tank yet.
Unfortunetly I've tried it on my M900 1995 .... I had a problem whit the fuel pump and it actually use gravity to fuel the carb ...... it works well in low rev. But when I would twist the trottle sudenlly (avove 3/4 trottle ) the bike would stall.
I've rebuilt the full pump since (40$)
thanks, mine working fine, was looking to just remove and toss. Guess i will just relocate
Following your nice project..good luck.
My 98 M900 has 41mm FCR's w/ the rectangular Mikuni vacuum pump that CCW sells. Its a little smaller than the hex oem pump.
I didn't try the fcr's on it w/o the pump.
I did try to run stock carbs w/o a fuel pump. The bike dies near the end of the tank as (I assume) the lowest part of tank is below the carbs. It needs a pump only for the last 1/2 gal or so.
I made a battery box for the Shorai too, only keeping the coil bracket- pic below
